Hair Removal For Non Binary Teen

SwankyPants · 01/09/2021 12:28

My non binary child (born male) has asked about hair removal.
They are 17.
Its body hair they want to remove.
Any ideas on what's best?
Thanks

Hair removal in what sense? Permanent? Also depends where PN the body if they want to go for creams.

DuckPancake · 01/09/2021 12:30

On*

gamerchick · 01/09/2021 12:31

What type do you use? I don't think I even consulted my parents, I just got on with it with my dad's razor like every other teen. Grin.

I use a face shaver on my legs though, it seems to get a lot smoother than razors and no trauma.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 01/09/2021 12:34

Being non-binary makes no difference to hair removal, does it? The options are the same as for any other person, and depend mainly on the body part they want to do it to.

Enb76 · 01/09/2021 12:36

Same as for women, shave, wax, epilation, veet (or similar).

Facial hair, possible laser removal but that's expensive. Veet would probably be best until they know exactly who they want to be.

FreeBritnee · 01/09/2021 12:37

Gosh that’s going to be a labour of love if they’re hairy. I’d go for one of those home based IPL machines.

gamerchick · 01/09/2021 12:37

Yeah but time it carefully. I got a nasty chemical burn from Veet. It's evil stuff if you're not paying attention.

SwankyPants · 01/09/2021 13:07

I thought they might need different stuff because of being male, with hair a different texture. Maybe I'm reading into it too much Grin
I'm looking at the lumea.

Lumea could make it permanent. I'd go for temporary solutions - waxing. He's 17. If he's still non binary in 5 or 10 years then go for the permanent solution but for the moment it's best not to take irreversible action, especially if in respect to facial hair.

withiceplease · 01/09/2021 13:36

Frankly I'd leave them to sort it themselves at 17 years old

IWasBornInAThunderstorm · 01/09/2021 13:39

Body hair on legs and arms I'd shave then wax once it's grown back long enough. Check out swimmers forums for tips.

And yeah at 17 maybe they can Google and see what they would prefer to do?
SometimesRavenSometimesParrot · 01/09/2021 13:43

Short term FFS razors and shaving cream are excellent. I’d also recommend the first aid beauty bump eraser body scrub to prevent in grown hairs.

Long term a Philips lumea is the best 300 quid you can spend

Well it does as many salons are female sex only and won't wax males.
torquewench · 01/09/2021 14:33

Probably a men's razor, aren't they supposed to be cheaper than pink girlie ones? I'd defo not recommend using Veet on their balls, or wax if they've never done it before.

gamerchick · 01/09/2021 14:41

Razors designed for women are rubbish anyway. A lot more comfortable using ones designed for men. You don't get shredded.

NiceGerbil · 01/09/2021 14:44

Temporary at that age wax prob best. Loads of men get parts of body waxed!

NiceGerbil · 01/09/2021 14:45

That will be ££ though at 17.

Sorry when said men should have said male people.

2bazookas · 01/09/2021 15:12

Waxing is no fun, so a good test of how much he really wants to be hairless.

I didn't say they were also autistic and have body dysmorphia. Turns out they have already been shaving 'everywhere' I've ordered the lumea. Thanks for the suggestions everyone :)

If it’s for legs and arms you can buy mitts that look a bit like sandpaper and use them gently on forearms and legs in a circular motion to remove hair and as a bonus it exfoliates the skin so that you don’t get ingrowing hairs.

Superdrug I think sells them.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 02/09/2021 12:22

Hair removal is one of the things I find inexplicably strongly gendered.

Baby pink epilators or macho black abd blue and chrome 20-bladed razors. Hair removal products really should be unisex.

I hope they get on with the Lumea - I would steer well clear of creams and waxes especially for intimate areas.

SometimesRavenSometimesParrot · 02/09/2021 13:06

Get a very good moisturiser for after using the lumea - soap and glory is my choice.
Use the lumea on the highest tolerated setting and then thicken in moisturiser after
