Make up suggestions for 12 year old

DD12 wants to start dabbling with make up. She particularly wants eyeliner and mascara, she likes what I can only describe as Japanese cute style cat eye boho look (not sure I have described this at all!)

Are there any brands should I look at , and any ideas where to start with eyeliner...pen, pencil, liquid?! Are there any you tubers you'd recommend for young light make up?

Popped into Boots the other day and the range of make up seems to have grown exponentially since my teenage days and No 17!

Thank you x

I'd start with pencil liner, much easier. Nyx seems popular with the teen in my life as big range and not too pricey. Not sure if their mascara is any good but the eyeliners work well.

Tinted moisturiser also seems popular rather than foundation.

Oh and a sharpener for the pencil

My dd has those eyes. She uses liquid eyeliner from NYX. No mascara or anything. Although she does have a clear mascara so maybe she uses that.

She also has a 'Smokey eye palette' of just blacks and greys. And some brushes.

And you need something to wash it all off with too. Grin

If your dd knows what she wants to look like she probably knows what she needs too as they watch videos on it.

@LittleBrenda good point about cleanser!

Yes any recommendations for skincare routines most appreciated too! . I'm a Liz Earle cleanse and polish obsessive but wonder if that suits teenage skin. Her skin is beautiful at the moment 😐

Gentle as possible. Maybe something like cetaphil?

Elf is a really good starter brand for make up and skincare, they do dupes of more expensive brands so it’s a good way to find things you like and then find the brand they have “copied” which leads to finding more brands you like.

Are make overs allowed at the moment?

Maybe have a trip to a few counters and ask them so DD can see how it is applied. and hopefully pic up some tips and free samples.

My teenage nieces loved Urban Decay but I'm not sure if that's gone out of fashion. It's pricy but good.

Re skin care

Cleanse, tone moisturise, don't use soap on your face.

We actually had an afterschool activity on hair and make up when I was at high school, 6 sessions of 1 hour. Wash your makeup brushes whenever you use them.

It was one of the few positive things I remember from school. There had been a number of girls getting conjunctivitis from sharing mascara.

Superdrug seems to have a large range with varying prices. My 13 dd watched some YouTube videos on applying make up and is quite good at it now! They are so much more advanced then we were at that age!
