Getting stuck in a sports bra

OhRosalind · 31/08/2021 21:47

I’m just recovering from getting stuck in my sports bra, DH is out and I seriously thought I might dislocate a shoulder or have a panic attack. My lovely post-Pilates relaxed feeling is definitely gone. Is there a trick to this? It’s old and probably a bit small but went on ok, then once I was sweaty it was near impossible to wriggle out of.

I’m about a 30DD but I don’t want anything in a specific bra size as my size fluctuates with breastfeeding. Low impact is fine so I’d be happy with a soft and stretchy crop top but lots seem designed for a/b cups. I’m looking at the larger cup options on the lululemon site but unfortunately the product description doesn’t mention how easy it is to get off! Alternatively, maybe something with a fastening but not in the centre of the back (as it’s annoying during Pilates) would work? Any recommendations?

I always wear back fastening ones tbh. Can't be doing with dislocating body parts trying to get them on and off

dementedpixie · 31/08/2021 21:50

You could try a front fastening one

OhRosalind · 31/08/2021 21:57

I hate the feeling of the back clip on my spine during rolling exercises in Pilates, if the fastening was padded it would be ok I suppose.

Not keen on a front zip for the same reasons, I don’t think it would be comfy for mat work.

Front zip! There is enough "cushioning" that I don't feel it when on my front doing pilates (rare occasions I get to the 9am Saturday class Grin) It's got to be better than nearly dislocating your shoulder, anyway!

OhRosalind · 31/08/2021 22:15

Maybe I’ll give a front zip one a try then. I can’t bear the thought of putting the crop top and struggling to escape again!

If it's a soft stretchy bra without a fastening I pull them on, and later off again, over my legs. I also do this with stretchy camisole tops designed to go under clothing. Never had a problem with struggling to get them on and off this way.

OhRosalind · 01/09/2021 07:47

That would work with something really stretchy but there’s no way my current one would go over my thighs.

I slip my left arm out first, then the rest is easy.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 01/09/2021 08:32

Front zip ones are really comfy I find

XingMing · 01/09/2021 10:10

The Lululemon sports bra back clip is very flat so I don't feel it during rolling exercises. Can't remember the style name, but it has crossed back.

pastabest · 01/09/2021 10:14

I have some lovely front zip ones from M&S. much easier to put on.

I feel your pain. I had a pull on sports bra that was snug. Wore it to the gym for a class - broke 2 fingers and a bone in my hand with a medicine ball and a rebounder! Now try to get your bra off - my DH thought it was his lucky night when I came home and asked him to take off my bra. Now it's back fastening ones all the way!

OhRosalind · 01/09/2021 12:18

Thanks XinMing that’s helpful to know.

That sounds very traumatic 3dogsnorth!

We have definitely all been there! There’s nothing like the panic of being stuck in a sports bra! I like the Nike ones as the padding is one big strip that is easily removed from the front- extra wiggle room!

arootintootingoodtime · 01/09/2021 12:59

I have Odlo back fastening ones, but I do feel the clip for Pilates and yoga. My front zip Under Amour sports bra is the best - really supportive and the zip sits over the space between your baps Wink so doesn't dig in at all for mat work.

One time, I was gettting changed for work in the showers that are on the underground level in our office building and dislocated my shoulder taking my sports bra off (I have hypermobile EDS so these things sadly do happen to me). So I was one boob out, one half in, due at my desk, trapped and alone and, because there was no phone signal, I had no way of calling a mate to the rescue! I had to wait an excruciating half an hour for someone to come in.

The moral of that tale is - zip-fastening sports bras are good for your health Blush

OhRosalind · 01/09/2021 20:26

Oh god arootintootingoodtime that’s awful, you poor thing!

Pull on sports bras are the work of the devil. Love my front zip one, so much easier

Hooplawho · 01/09/2021 21:00

I like the sweaty Betty stamina sports bras, I’m about your size - they’re comfy and I’ve never got stuck in one Grin

OhRosalind · 02/09/2021 12:27

Thanks hooplawho I’ll have a look.

if you are just wearing it from pilates, you could try a non supportive crop top type that you can slip down over your hips. I can't do the front zip with a DD, they want to jump out as I zip up.
I have some M&S specific size bras, the back doesn't dig in badly for me, and the sizes are flexible. I'm a 32dd, but I don't like them too tight on my ribs, the 34d fits fine and I just bought a 34c and that fit okay too.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 02/09/2021 15:44

I'm a 28-30E, OP, so similar size to you. Lots of the brands PPs are suggesting don't come in a small enough chest size, especially in combo with our cup size.

After a lot of trial and error, I have Runderwear bras- amazingly comfortable, compared with other sports bras, and they have an easy-fastening one that doesn't require the shoulder flexibility of Simone Biles to get it on 😉

Jennyw12 · 14/09/2021 17:57

Good to know I'm not alone in getting stuck when trying to get sports bras off. When it happens at the gym I have to decide whether to wear it home and get DH to help or ask someone at the gym. Advice?
