Recycling beauty product containers.

LadyEloise1 · 31/08/2021 19:55

Trying to do my little bit for the environment by recycling the packaging of beauty products.
I have a white "glass" container fro L'oreal and emailed them to see in what category of glass it should go - it's not clear, green or brown.

I got a generic reply that was no help at all Sad

Any solution the the glass please ?

Surely these huge multinationals should be at the forefront of using recyclable packaging.

this says they are putting make up recycling bins in stores for plastic, you would think they could have given you a better answer.

I can't answer your question I'm afraid, but can tell you that if you take 5 beauty containers into John Lewis, they will recycle them for you and give you £5 off a beauty product purchase. I've done it a few times and have been hoarding my empties in preparation for the next purchase.

Can't you just put it in the household glass recycling collection?

IWasBornInAThunderstorm · 01/09/2021 05:08

That way the experts can decide

There's no John Lewis where I live Sadnor do we have a glass recycling collection service. Sad
It's a container made of heavy "white" glass.

Oh! I'd chuck it in the brown glass just becuase it's least likely to affect the colour!
IWasBornInAThunderstorm · 01/09/2021 08:52

Probably the wrong thing to do!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/09/2021 08:53

Are you sure it really is glass? Some plastic look like glass and are very heavy.

You'd have better luck asking the company who will actually be recycling the item. Contact your local recycling centre.

LadyEloise1 · 01/09/2021 11:41

I wish the beauty industry as a whole would use recyclable containers.
We've seen the effects of climate change and if we can help at all we should.
