What’s a lovely body oil or body lotion?

KintsugiCat · 31/08/2021 18:53

Looking for something that’s a once a week treat to lift my mood and make my skin silky after a bath.

Things I have liked before are Dr Hauschka Rose Body Oil and Fushi Coconut and Frangipani Body Lotion.

Ideally looking for something in £10-15 range although I could stretch a bit if it was a large size. Needs to be cruelty free.

I love Elizabeth Arden green tea.. especially the thick honey drops body cream.

bastedyoungturkey · 31/08/2021 21:35

Not sure about cruelty free but Rituals body oil is beautiful.

CantStartaFireWithoutaSpark · 31/08/2021 22:23

This might seem like a silly Q but what are the benefits of body oil? Blush

OverByYer · 31/08/2021 22:24

L’Occitaine almond body oil

SirVixofVixHall · 31/08/2021 22:30

The REN rose one is really lovely but not cheap.

KintsugiCat · 01/09/2021 12:20

@CantStartaFireWithoutaSpark They are usually pretty good at dealing in moisture after a bath. More specific benefits vary from oil to oil and will depend on the type of oil that’s in it e.g. jojoba. Coconut, sweet almond oil.

@bastedyoungturkey I looked into Rituals and they are cruelty free, I’d always assumed they weren’t for some reason. Any recommendations on which variety?

@waytheleaveswork Oh weleda’s a good idea. There’s a health food shop on the corner sells some of their stuff.

Sadly the other suggestions aren’t cruelty-free really.

REN is cruelty free.
I agree Weleda products are generally good.

KintsugiCat · 01/09/2021 13:02

@SirVixofVixHall Ren was bought by Unilever in 2015 so they are no longer cruelty-free. Shame as they had some lovely stuff, I used to particularly love their Glyco-lactic mask: smelled like one angle and pineapple Kia-Ora.

I didn’t know they had been bought out, have used them for ages. Although this says they are still cruelty free ? www.crueltyfreekitty.com/brand/ren/

Avon skin so soft dry body oil

KintsugiCat · 01/09/2021 15:26

@SirVixofVixHall Ren products aren’t tested on animals but they are owned by a company who does test on animals. It does mention that on the Cruelty Free Kitty link you provided.

I am aware that people differ on whether they are consider brands that are owned by parent companies who test cruelty free or not. . Some do, some don’t. I fall in the latter camp and think that there are good arguments either way. But I do think that information should be laid out transparently to allow people to choose.

I have found that Cruelty Free Kitty has moved it’s standards slightly since it became more commercialised and they started adding affiliate links to buy products at retailers like Sephora, Amazon etc. You can click through on brands like Ren (Unilever) and the Ordinary (Estee Lauder) from them so my impression is that CFK will earn money on those click throughs.

They have changed “owned by a parent company that test” from being a core criteria to being an additional criteria you can search on. I don’t think they are clear now.

That’s really knocked my trust in Cruelty Free Kitty and I avoid them as a reference now and tend to go to Ethical Elephant as I think they are clearer in how they lay it out. They too have affaire links but I think they have retained a clearer style.

Another vote for the rituals body oils

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 16:17

I hadn’t clicked on them before so I wasn't aware of their policy, I was just looking for more info on REN as I have used their products since they began I think, so that sounded hopeful to me.
Maybe Weleda will be your best bet then, I also like Dr Hauschka as you mention in your OP, and Weleda seem a good substitute. There is a company that does really lovely facial oils, I haven’t tried the body oils yet but the face stuff is very good. www.therosetree.co.uk/collections/body-care

Elemis frangipani body oil is my favourite, absorbs really well and smells divine

KintsugiCat · 01/09/2021 16:26

@SirVixofVixHall Yes, I used them from the beginning too and it was a real wrench to let them go.

Thanks for the other suggestion.

The Rose Tree facial oils smell amazing.
I feel like there is a company I can’t remember that was similar to Weleda, I will wrack my brains,..

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 16:55

Oh ! I have remembered, I used this brand when I was pregnant.. no stretchmarks. I must try something again, www.madeforlifeorganics.com/shop/

KintsugiCat · 01/09/2021 17:44

Did they used to be called Spieza? I remember the coloured glass bottles.

Sadly a bit out of my price range now that I am getting divorced and going back to being a student!

OP posts:
SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 17:57

Yes, spieza . I think they still are ? At least the bottles still say that.

KintsugiCat · 01/09/2021 18:39

As so they do. Couldn’t see the fine print on my phone.
