If you switch out your wardrobe for the different seasons when do you put your summer stuff away and bring out your autumn/winter clothes?

@AbsolutelySure

I'm also curious to know where you put all your out of season clothes ....
I have some zipped storage bags that live in the spare room and in the cupboards on top of my wardrobe.

I also vacuum pack - we have a massive shelf at the top of the wardrobe and it’s either knitwear or summer dresses up there.

October usually, but by that point I am often wearing very few items from the summer wardrobe on repeat!
I already can't think what to wear tomorrow (in a school, all windows open) so think the changeover may come as soon as this weekend this year.

MidnightMeltdown · 01/09/2021 00:07

I usually do this at the end of September/beginning of October as September can sometimes be warm. Feeling a bit doubtful this year though. Autumn seems to have started in July Angry

LavendulaAngustifolia · 01/09/2021 11:34

I don't really have summer stuff to put away it's just bigger winter jackets, thicker tights and roll neck jumper that get stored for winter. Even then it's only just at the back of the wardrobe and brought to the front nothing gets put in the loft of under the bed anywhere.

@shouldistop, @UserNameNameNameUser,
It flowers usually late April or early May,.
We have drier and warmer springtime nowadays.

FreekStar2 · 01/09/2021 14:21

It's going to be hot next week! There are even really warm days through October. In Britain the weather is never guaranteed to have 'definitely changed' before October.

OneAugustNight · 01/09/2021 16:48

I’m ready to do it now but might wait a week or two and see what the weather does.

19 and raining where I live. I lived overseas for 25 years and for me hot is 35 plus, so I can safely put away my summer clothes.

When I feel that the clothes I have are no longer suitable and I have the time, I usually try to do a clear through at the same time of unworn clothes etc. My clothes go in the loft in boxes or bags. Also do my daughters at the same time as I keep clothes we are given by friends with older children to try for the next age/season. My daughters next clothes are kept in a suitcase on top of her wardrobe. It does take time but I don’t have the wardrobe space for all of them together. Wardrobe is one side work and one side home/ evening wear. Night out stuff doesn’t completely change or jeans etc….

Usually in October and March/April, I would hold fire for a week or two if you are in Midlands/SE as I spotted a 26 on the weather for next week not sure about rest of country as it was more local weather

User875906 · 01/09/2021 21:20

I put out of season stuff on the high shelves of wardrobe in zipped containers from IKEA and under the spare single bed as it has storage space with sliding doors

MidnightMeltdown · 01/09/2021 21:26

Yes the forecast for next week is currently looking promising... but I'm not going to hold my breath. Was contemplating whether to light the fire this evening as there is such a chill!

User875906 · 01/09/2021 21:29

My heating has kicked in a couple of times in the past week as it is set at 19.5 in the evening

desperate4spring · 01/09/2021 21:33

The weather forecast here (SE) says it's going to be 25deg next week so not yet!!!

PrincessNutNuts · 01/09/2021 21:38

I try and hold out until October half term.

Most of my weekend wardrobe is year round.

It's just the super summery and the warm wintery stuff that gets swapped over.

My boiler is on summer setting and wouldn't normally get switched to winter until October. However the thermostat is currently saying 18 degrees. If it get much lower then the heating is going on!
MrsPear · 03/09/2021 21:03

@AbsolutelySure I have a single wardrobe - as in a one door one. No choice over seasonal. Summer clothes are packed in a suitcase in the loft. Summer clothes are completely different to winter. Winter clothes are woollens, cords, heavy jeans, opaques and long sleeves vs summer are cotton, lighter dresses and short sleeves/sleeveless.
