I have lots of little spots on chin, nose and hair line. I have dry but oily skin. I have used face washes/cleansers before which haven't seemed to make a difference. Only used micellar water and cotton wool recently but looking for any recommendations to help improve my skin and get rid of the spots.

Not sure what your budget is but I've recently started using Pai products on my dehydrated but oily skin. My skin is much more clear and has a more dewy, fresh look. I saw a difference within a week which I didn't expect.

Try witch hazel as a final toner before bed. Bottles in boots are about £2.

Cereve salicylic acid one is brilliant for my oily but dry and prone to spots skin

I would use cerave face wash, in my opinion micellar water isn't enough. Then I'd look at. BHA like Paula's Choice or anything with salicylic acid in. Then just a simple moisturiser, again I don't know your budget but can't go wrong with cerave or La Roche Posay.

I’ve used Body Shop Camomile range for years and love it, there’s an oil & a balm, both great & a really reasonable price.

I’ve tried on and off various different ones now and again but never been blown away even by much more expensive products and always come back to these ones.

Yep another one for salicylic acid and AHA/BHA toners. Also charcoal face masks. I have teenagers and they are spotty and this really works. I get them to cleanse (basic cleanser), tone (salicylic acid evening and BHA/AHA morning) and SPF 50 moisturise. Then a weekly charcoal face mask. It’s working and makes them feel ‘in control’.

Thank you all for the recommendations. I'll have a look into the suggestions.

I’m trying the Clinique 3 step system for type3 skin at the moment (£17 for three small bottles but should last a good month) and I’ve already noticed a difference in a week which is impressive as it’s my worst week (period week)

KatharinaRosalie · 30/08/2021 20:24

try this one, it's exactly for your type of skin www.facetheory.com/collections/cleansers-scrubs-masks/products/clarifying-cleanser-c2-pro

Hi Blessex. Can I ask what brands your teens use? My dd has problem skin and could probably benefit from your teens regime.

NeverRTFT · 30/08/2021 23:23

Whatever cleanser you use, it's worth double cleansing with it, ie wash your face twice. I had terrible problems with spots, especially around my period, but since double cleansing it's all cleared up.
I use a soap-bar style cleanser called PeeKee by drunken elephant. It's a bit pricey but works for me. But I swear it's the double-cleanse thing that has made the difference to my spots.

Hi @ACatCalledPuss - yep of course.

Cleanser - I buy any old cleanser honestly - something that will get the skin super clean. I wouldn’t necessarily invest in something that will go down the plug hole.

Toner - either Glossier Solution (which has AHA and BHA) - BHA is salicylic acid which is great for spots. There is also a Nip and Fab Salicylic acid one and of you really want to push the boat out then Caudelie VinoPure toner with Salicylic acid is lovely but more pricey. I have that one and I know my DD strays in to use it!!!

Moisturiser - a standard SPF 50. Usually I get La Roche Posay for face as won’t be too greasy for them. Again more expensive but a good SPF is the best protection against ageing damage.

Face masks - either The Ordinary Salicylic Acid mask (mine!!!!) or I bought a Garnier 3 in 1 charcoal mask the other day that also doubles up as a cleanser.

Hope that helps. It certainly is working for them and I think it is good they learn how to look after their skin at a young age.

Ps I have a DD and a DS and the DS is being trained to do this too. Good skincare shouldn’t only be for the girls IMO.

Brilliant, thanks Blessex!
