Short workout for 50+ woman - weights?

I really need to get my act together. I want to try to do a short workout in the mornings, just 15 minutes, instead of the 30 I spend mindlessly browsing online before I go to work. I even make a head start on work emails which is ridiculous. Then I get all stressed out because I am late leaving for work.

I want to at least attempt to modify my morning routine. I know I will struggle once it starts getting really cold, but I need to do something. I am 51, 1 stone overweight and miserable with it.

Does anyone know a 15 minute workout I can safely do in the mornings? I feel that I should focus on weights, squats, that kind of thing, rather than jumping up and down at that time of the morning.

Hopefully those few minutes won't be my only workout and it will motivate me to do more during the week, like couch to 5, which I am actually doing but only once or twice a week.

So, any DVDs anyone would recommend, or youtube workouts? Please be specific if you can, rather than saying check Joe Wicks or Gilliam Michaels, or Davina... I hope that doesn't sound rude, I'd just like specific workouts from women my sort of age.

Have a look at Lucy Wyndham-Reed,

www.lwrfitness.com/

She has some free 7 minute workouts on this page which are great for a burst of energy in the morning but low impact so you don't need to dig out your sports bra and trainers (I do them barefoot in pjs). I'm doing these mixed with yoga, jogging and one or two classes a week at the sports centre.

These are brilliant - loads of different exercises and more importantly fun and easy to fit in to life.

I like 10 Minute Fat Burning Total Body Workout on Fitness Blender. It is with weights and on YouTube.

I've start jump rope (skipping) burns a lot of calories in a short amount of time. I use weighted ropes and lightweight. I use the crossrope app which has free workouts and an annual subscription.

Jillian Michael's Fit Fusion has short workouts and is £10 a month subscription.

Sorry just saw the no jumping.

Fit Fusion app is great.

@Kintsugi16 I love that article, thank you for sharing. I’m 50++ & currently strength train at a gym 2xweek but have struggled to motivate myself to add in any more at home workouts. That breaks it down so well. Bananas, I have felt so much better since starting proper exercise, life is still challenging but I think I would feel so much worse without it. And all that miracle morning stuff (which I also keep meaning to start…) suggests you’re on to something, good luck Smile

It is good @weekwhat. I’ve printed out the sheet and downloaded a bleep timer app.

I adapt it and substitute some exercises of my own to mix it up a bit too.

I am 55 and do Jillian Michaels Body Revolution before work 5 mornings a week. Cons are it is quite old, has been out for a number of years so may be a bit dated. Also, it is half an hour per work out, including warm up and cool down.
Pros are its a good mixture of weights, squats, lunges, wee bit of yoga, wee bit of cardio. it consists of 15 work outs that you progress every 2 weeks over a 3 month period (or longer if required) so you don't get bored and you gradually build your fitness and ability.
I have found it good for gradual weight loss, strength, balance and mobility and muscle tone (all important in my age group)
