Having been encouraged on another thread to check out Trinny wardrobe clear-out videos on YouTube, I just did that. I am impressed, she definitely gives food for thought, including giving yourself permission to hang out to a few items that don’t fit, or that you know for whatever reason you won’t wear, but that you love for sentimental reasons. I still feel sad that a couple of years ago, I gave to charity a pair of small Levi 501s. I loved them. They reminded me of happy times at Uni, but I thought I ‘should’ get rid of them, so I did!
She also suggested taking everything out of our wardrobes, even though it’s a faff, and put things back with a lot of thought, perhaps in colour sections, or outfit sections. I think I will try this. I tend to hang my clothes in subject sections i.e. tops, then pants, then dresses and so on.
One thing that disturbed me a bit is that, despite her inevitably huge income, many of her clothes are from shops that I can afford and some that I buy from (admittedly, some of her stuff is from much higher end brands, but she suggesting those purchases were all from years ago). She has lots of things from Cos, & Other Stories, Zara and even M&S! She made reference to a top being pricey at £60 and a dress at £100. Now, admittedly, I rarely pay full price. On principle, I seek out discounts like a Ninja. I have to really want an item, feel that nothing close would be available elsewhere and that it may sell out, for me to pay full price. Here’s the rub though, I’m mostly retired now. I work a couple of days a week and my income is about £45,000. If the millionaire Trinny shops those brands, maybe I am overdoing it with my clothing budget!
I’d love to hear what other MNs think about all this stuff.
