I don't like my new glasses

I had to buy new glasses, it's really hard to chose especially not being able to see properly and I've got them home and a) I don't like them

b) they feel too big and don't fit properly

I've never had a problem before and always got used to them but I prefer the glasses I am wearing

Anyone had to take their glasses back.

I've done that. I wore them for driving only and left them in the glove compartment.

Laquila · 25/08/2021 21:08

Where were they from? Specsavers do a no quibble return policy within a couple of months - I've taken two pairs back and swapped them over the years! Both just didn't suit me and weren't comfy.

woodhill · 25/08/2021 21:10

Yes they were, I hate the frames but needed new glasses. I thought they would be ok but it's hard to judge when there is a price sticker on and no lenses

You can get your existing glasses reglazed if you're happy with them (as long as they are in reasonable condition). You don't have to have new frames.

I'm too short sighted to see what I look like when trying on glasses - it's a faff but I take a photo on my phone when I try on frames, then put my old glasses on to see what I look like.

TooStressyTooMessy · 25/08/2021 21:21

I hadn’t actually had my glasses made yet but I changed my mind about my glasses after I had ordered them and had sent the order off for production. I’m with Specsavers too. It was no trouble and they were really kind about it.

Of course they had to be nice to me as the customer but they said they would much by rather me be happy and told me about their guarantee. I’m so glad I did it as it’s so important to be happy with your glasses.

Mischance · 25/08/2021 21:22

I have taken a new pair back to SpecSavers because I did not like them. They were fine with it.

It is so hard choosing glasses when you cannot see them! And we all look crap in phone photos, so that is not much help.

Jng1 · 25/08/2021 21:26

I also had to take glasses back to Specsavers recently and they were fine - swapped back to identical frames as my old ones!

I wear variafocals and the news glasses were too flimsy and weren't rigid enough on my face, so I wasn't looking through the 'right' part of the lenses and kept getting headaches.

Did you know specsavers have a 'virtual try on' function on the website which lets you see how glasses look on you (you upload a short video of yourself). It's really good to help with shortlisting before you go into the shop.

Yes me!
I hated having to take them back but made myself do it . The first time I went back they just adjusted them but I found them no better, and when I went back the second time after a bit of discussion they allowed me to choose another pair. The frames were cheaper than the first pair and this offset the cost of the new lenses. They didn’t give me the impression they were delighted to let me have a new pair, but equally there wasn’t any great drama. Being honest I didn’t like the second pair much either but at least they were a better fit and I could see in them.
Buying glasses is the thing I hate doing most of all because lots of styles seem to swamp me and the smaller frames make me look double my age - plus I’m convinced my ears aren’t level which is the reason why a lot of frames seem to look crooked on me
Having said that I love the frames I’ve got now, which interestingly came with a 60 day no quibble returns policy, and I’m more than happy to wear them all time. They are comfortable and sit straight because they were fitted so well. Previous pairs I’ve always taken on and off as I didn’t really like to be seen wearing them.
I used a local optician this time who didn’t have a huge selection of frames, but the sales lady was beyond helpful, although not particular tactful as when she asked to see my old pair she said that she wouldn’t be showing me anything like them!
I picked out a couple of frames and so did she. Her choices were head and shoulders better them mine and I knew as soon as I put her first pair on that I didn’t want to look any further. They just felt right, whereas other pairs I’ve had had just been OK.
Take your glasses back OP, and don’t let them fob you off with adjusting them.

woodhill · 25/08/2021 22:00

Thanks they are varifocals. I had pics taken at the time.

I like the colour of the frame but the shape is too wide, they still do my original frame

My face doesn't look balanced. Itms

So will they replace the whole pair of glasses if I hate them? I like my 2nd reading pair

Yup! Happened to me recently. Hated my new ones. Ended up taking them back for a refund and got lenses put into my old frames which really suit me.

WhoppingBigBackside · 26/08/2021 09:53

I'm not a fan of the aforementioned specs shop. I'd much rather go to a local optician.

@WhoppingBigBackside

I'm not a fan of the aforementioned specs shop. I'd much rather go to a local optician.
I'd normally say I'm a 'shop local' with independents too, but although we went to our local optician for many years in the end they just seemed to have become so old-fashioned and incompetent (mixed up our two kids prescriptions!) that I couldn't bear it.

Specsavers are a franchise I think, so different people's experiences are very much dependent on the local franchisee. We live between two towns with a SS in each and they are very different. That said, it was very useful for DS to have a local SS in his uni town who repaired his glasses for free when the arm snapped.

WhoppingBigBackside · 26/08/2021 11:32

I found that the service at the local optician much better. I got a wrong prescription from Spec*** once, and know of others who said the same, from different branches. Mine was wrong, no two ways about it - I took the prescription elsewhere and they spotted it straight away.

They are good for fixing things and they are convenient, but i prefer the independent optician. There are other chains local to me, and they seem slightly better than SS.

TooStressyTooMessy · 26/08/2021 15:31

I would much rather go to my local optician and I do for my children. For me though, the difference in price was huge (well £100, probably nearer to £200 as I needed new sunglasses too). When I asked if they did any offers they just said ‘no’. So while I feel guilty about it there is just no way I can be paying so much when my Specsavers down the road also has great service.

WhoppingBigBackside · 26/08/2021 15:36

I just have the same frames reglazed, so it's the prescription that is important to me.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/08/2021 15:42

Specsavers are great at adjusting until they fit. They have re done glasses for me as well. Go back and talk to them.

LosingMySh1t · 26/08/2021 16:32

Specsavers have a 100 days no quibble no fuss guarantee. As someone who worked there for many years if they don't swap them they will get in serious shit from the equivalent of head office.
