Frizzy hair :( can it be tamed?

IGIVEUPGRRR · 24/08/2021 11:01

Hi lovelies,

Has anyone found a way to actually tame their notorious frizzy hair without damn expensive products? I had a baby 1 year ago and I’ll be honest she’s so full on that I don’t have the time anymore for the whole ritual of trying to tame this unruly mess! I just want to feel nice like before and wear my hair down without looking like something from the hair bear bunch :( my hair is down to my bum and I’d ideally like to keep it (I get that someone reading this might be scoffing with a little thought of “good luck with that”) but I’m just fed of looking the same every day with it just chucked up :(

Any advice or tips would be fab!

If you can afford it, a Brazilian blow dry or yuko system is life changing.

AgathaX · 24/08/2021 11:09

You can buy Brazilian blow dry from Amazon. I use it, it's awesome stuff and makes such a difference.

AgathaX · 24/08/2021 11:12

I've just looked at the bottle. It's called cocochoco gold keratin treatment. It's about £30. I have shoulder length hair and a bottle lasts me for about 3 treatments. Each treatment lasts for around 3 months.

I have two very frizzy / curly haired little girls and the best things I have found for their hair are

Soap for Little Suds avocado leave in conditioner

Ky jelly (or any water based lubricant from the pound shop)

I spray a mixture of the conditioner / water in their hair every morning , use a tangle teaser , and the rub a bit of ky jelly in my hands and sort of scrunch it. As per the curly girl method I only shampoo their hair once per month , and "co-wash" the other times. It does help to keep on top
Of frizz !

Noorandapples · 24/08/2021 11:49

For my frizzy hair: Use very wide toothed comb, only comb after de-tangling with conditioner. If I comb or brush dry hair it just breaks and gets more frizzy. Use curl defining serum (loads of choice in supermarkets) and smooth through wet hair, comb and scrunch upwards. Never rub hair with a fluffy towel, only squeeze with a flat towel or old t-shirt. When it starts to frizz I plait it and put gel or serum over the plait. Or I wear a bandana or scarf.

I’m very intrigued about using lubricant in your hair!! I suspect it might be just want mine needs. Off to google.

Same! Do you put it on wet or dry hair?
EezyOozy · 24/08/2021 13:09

Wet or dry!! It's not sticky at all

RacheyCat · 24/08/2021 13:11

I have very frizzy hair. However, if I shampoo, condition with a mask rather than regular conditioner, then add that Loreal 8 Second Wonder Water, then rinse, then add a little bit of hair oil and leave it to dry without messing with it, it's actually very smooth and glossy.

You can also use Colour Wow Dreamcoat on washed damp hair, but I have a growing suspicion it's basically very similar to the Wonder Water in chemical composition, just much more expensive.

Some people say the Wonder Water dries out their hair through regular use, which is why I put it on after the conditioner rather than before, against the instructions on the bottle.

Currently sitting here with lube on my head 😂. I have very long, thick, frizz prone hair so will see how it dries and report back.

Sickoffamilydrama · 24/08/2021 18:34

Curly hair gets frizzy because it's more porous so you either you need to keep the mouisture in or out depending how humid it is.

I use this ECO hair gel it's very popular among curly groups and cheap.

Frizzy hair :( can it be tamed?
JustStartingOut1 · 24/08/2021 18:37

Are you UK based? Superdrug own-brand hair mousse is the best out there. I have super-thick, almost bum-length curly hair. I have tried them all!!

LucyLastik · 24/08/2021 19:01

I can confirm, lube is a game changer!

catwithwhiskers · 24/08/2021 19:10

How do you use lube on your hair? I'm very intrigued how this works! I have very frizzy and dry hair so curious if this will help tame it!

SlightlyJaded · 24/08/2021 19:12

@AgathaX

I bought some of that but the writing is so tiny that I don't know how to use it. Can you advise? also frizzy

NeverRTFT · 24/08/2021 19:46

John Frieda frizz ease serum is dead cheap and works.
Brazilian blow dry if you can afford it is amazing but it won't look like your hair any more. It can come out do smooth and sleek that it almost looks like a wig!

AgathaX · 24/08/2021 21:09

SlightlyJaded of course -

Wash hair with clarifying shampoo, don't condition.
Dry hair straight.
Apply lotion to small sections from roots to tips. Comb through to ensure all hair covered and to remove excess.
Leave for 30 minutes.
With product still on hair, blow dry hair straight again.
Using straighteners set at 220/230, straighten hair in thin sections, straightening each section around 5 times. This bit smells so best to do it by an open window or door.
Instructions say to now leave hair unwashed for 72 hours, however I usually wash mine before that (after about 2.5 days) and it still works well and lasts well.
During the not washing period, don't let hair get wet, don't tie up/back as it kinks it. If hair does get wet, dry it as soon as possible and re-straighten. I usually have to restraighten parts of it in the mornings after I get up as it's kinked during the night.
Only use salt free/sodium chloride free shampoo and conditioner as salt dissolves the product from hair quicker. Salt free shampoo is available from Amazon (Jenoris Keratin Salt Free Shampoo), I've never found it available in shops. Aussie conditioner is mostly salt free.

FreeBritnee · 24/08/2021 21:58

Ooooh did you put it on wet hair @LucyLastik?

LucyLastik · 25/08/2021 08:00

@FreeBritnee

Ooooh did you put it on wet hair *@LucyLastik*?
Yep. Washed, put some hair mask on then scrunched lube in. Finished off with a bit of gel but probably didn't need it. I've slept on it and my curls are still really defined. I'm honestly so impressed.
SlightlyJaded · 25/08/2021 08:49

Brilliant! Thanks @AgathaX

ThreeFlowers · 25/08/2021 09:30

I have really fine, frizzy hair and I’ve found that a combo of sulphate free shampoo and conditioner and Jason coconut oil (massive tub, will last years!) works for me. I smooth a tiny amount of coconut oil into my hair when it’s wet, starting at the ends then working up, brush through then leave to dry naturally.

I have also cut my hair very short for me, it’s ear length at the mo. My hair no longer hangs and is more curly now than frizzy. It’s actually been a revelation and I’m not sure I’ll ever go back to long hair now…bizarrely I seem to get more attention from men now, I think the shorter hair has made me look younger and suits my face better.

Can I just add to this? If you straighten each section around 20/30 times (I use two straighteners, one in each hand and alternate them) it lasts much longer, about 9 months for me.
FreeBritnee · 25/08/2021 11:43

Well lube it is then !!!

AgathaX · 25/08/2021 12:19

CatherinedeBourgh - wow!! Does it? I'll give this a go.

SlightlyJaded · 25/08/2021 12:21

@AgathaX and @CatherinedeBourgh

How small do the sections have to be? I have a lot of hair....
