I had an argument with DD about what a,tank top is. To me it's a sleeveless v neck jumper, but she says that's a sweater vest and a tank top is any sleeveless top with wide straps. I've noticed that people now call cropped trousers culottes whereas to me it refers to cropped trousers that look like a skirt. She also calls anything you pullover your head a jumper, whereas to me it refers to a knitted garment .I'm wondering if anyone else has any similar.

Sounds like US vs UK descriptions, especially re the tank top

Your dd is right about tank tops, you’re right about jumpers (imo)!

I have had the same conversation with my dd re the tank top. It is also a knitted sleeveless jumper to me.

My DDs also argue re tank top. Think it's too much US tv - "sweater vest" - something definitely not in my vocabulary. Think that a waistcoat is called a vest in the US.

Yes a tank top is a sleeveless, V-neck knitted jumper as immortalised by Gilbert O'Sullivan. A vest is what your mum made you wear when it was cold (along with a liberty bodice). Culottes are divided skirts and you are correct about jumpers. That is all.

Those pesky Yanks. Let’s not even get started on ‘pants’.
