Anybody use Josh Woods hair colour?

Do you rate it? My hairdresser is on maternity leave and I'm desperate to dye my hair but it's highlighted blonde and box dye always seems to make my roots ginger. If you've used it did you find it easy to pick a colour match?

I have used it. It is great in that it definitely avoids the ginger/red tones that most other dyes have. My only issue is that it covered my greys initially (my greys are actually pure white) but then acted more like a semi permanent and over time my white hairs are totally visible again. I may just have needed to leave it on longer than the recommended time though

Sorry forgot to say, colour match was spot on, first time that has happened with a home dye for me

I do - I like it, I have dark brown hair and it leaves it shiny. I like the shade shots which can give you a bit more control over the final shade. I have naturally red tones so add in a copper shade shot but you might want one to neutralise red/orange tones. Their customer service is good if you need help choosing the best product. I think I have a referral code if you are interested (just for the Josh Wood site - but they do also sell in Boots although I don’t think they do the full range).

Interesting, is it a proper colour dye - I was a bit confused by the 'shade shot' that you mix with the box colour? Thank you!

I use the permanent dye with a shade shot - the shots just give an extra dimension to the dye. So I use dark brown dye plus a chestnut shot, which gives red tones to the dye. If you wanted a cool colour brown colour you could choose their smoky shade shot for example.

So if you’re prone to red tones that you don’t like you can use a cool toned shade shot. I’ve naturally got auburn/red tones in my hair so go for the red shade shots. It basically just gives you a bit more control over the final result.

I too have blonde highlights, with some grey coming through. Overall I rate Josh Wood highly, but think you need to be careful with the permanent colour. Throughout lockdown I used the Champagne Blonde semi-permanent gloss to cover roots - occasionally mixing in a dollop of the Icy Blonde to cool the golden tone down. I was really pleased with the results, but then tried the permanent colour with a shade shot - less successful, and it will take my hairdresser a while to restore the highlights! 😉Josh Wood has great and helpful customer service, and I’d recommend booking a Zoom consultation for advice before using any permanent colour. This is the gloss - not designed to cover grey, but it blended mine in, and boosted the overall colour.

Following, I use the shade shot icy blonde to refresh the semi I have done at the salon , also blond, in an attempt to blend the greys, kinda working for now.. my hair is brown so the coloured greys look a bit like highlights . As I get more though I was wondering about using permanents...

Sorry I mean the gloss not the shade shot

Yes, I've always coloured my own hair and gave this a shot and I'm really happy with it, have it on six weekly order and I'm never dedicated to repeating anything!
