Best wide legged trousers for solid thighs

Any recommendations for flattering wide-legged trousers for a size 12 pear shape? I'm 5'4 so ideally not ridiculously long! Thanks so much.

No. None. I'm like you....size 12 and pear shaped. I'm not short but they always look terrible. They just don't suit our shape. They're best on tall, willowy women...over 5.8 and very slim.

FortunesFave · 22/08/2021 22:22

I am 5.6 I should say...so I've got two inches on you. My advice is just to avoid that shape.

WetBench · 22/08/2021 22:23

I love wide legged trousers and miss the linen type with elasticater waists. They suited me.

SnotandBothered · 22/08/2021 22:28

I am a pear.

I have found the best and most flattering way to wear a wide leg is on a linen jumpsuit (provided there is no waist)

So like this:

www.refinery29.com/en-us/shop/product/wide-leg-cotton-linen-jumpsuit-9926589

Or cheaper version

www.zara.com/uk/en/oversize-linen-blend-jumpsuit-p07753743.html?v1=108911223&gclid=CjwKCAjw64eJBhAGEiwABr9o2BruMc84HiNSCIqPpMR_N3T19sr8utAhXnK257ZYYrgwLI1Xyc-6PhoCwvQQAvD_BwE

For me, the fact I have a reasonably small waist is a disadvantage with wide leg trousers, because the hip then just looks ginormous. Skimming over the whole bloody lot with a jumpsuit is far more flattering (I am 5.6 and size 12 on top and 14 on bottom)

Artesia · 22/08/2021 22:40

Thanks all- not what I wanted to hear, but probably what I needed!!

I'm looking for an outfit for a family event. I usually wear dresses but want to find something a bit different to my usual look. Back to the drawing board!

I agree with the idea that a linen jumpsuit works...but that's basically because the silhouette is just the same as an a line dress!

I’ve just bought these and they are gorgeous www.whistles.com/product/wide-leg-crop-trouser-32102.html#isSecondPage=false&start=0&sz=60&q=Wide%20lEg&is=false&prefn1=refinementColor&prefv1=Black&pid=wide-leg-crop-trouser-32102&pos=0. They are ankle grazers one me. I think they have a long version in the sale.

StyleDesperation · 23/08/2021 06:46

What trouser styles for a pear shape then? I'm 5'8, size 10 on the bottom, pear shaped.

chocolatecheesecake · 23/08/2021 06:56

I'm a 5ft6 pear and if I try a jumpsuit I can't get one which isn't too tight around my hips/bum without being too large on my top half. So I find wide legged trousers a good solution! Albeit I get cropped ones (short legs), and make sure they are ones which don't have lots of extra material around the waist to bulk me up. So the unanimous view the other way round on this thread is interesting and making me doubt myself! If it helps, I make sure the top I wear gives me a waist, whether that's through the top's shape or by french tucking the top.

M&S usually has some good ones, and H&M good for wide cropped jeans.

Solid thighs made me laugh Grin I think you’ll find all thighs are solid OP!
I follow Candace Brathwaite on Instagram, she was recommending buying 3/4 length trousers as they come up full length on her.

TheGallopingGourmet · 23/08/2021 07:07

Don't forget underwear can make a massive difference. Get your spanx (or similar) on. They won't get rid of your saddle bags but they will at least smooth and even them out. They always make a difference even under wide leg and loose fitting/skimming clothes.

Floisme · 23/08/2021 07:20

What am I reading? I'm 5'3, heavy round the thighs and I bloody love wide legs. They make my thighs disappear and the best my ones give me a great waist and skim past my arse thereby camouflaging my short legs. What on earth is this this rule that says I shouldn't wear them?

They're not all the same though so I do think you need to try a lot on and experiment with different widths, different lengths, different rises and different brands. I buy mostly second hand so I can't really give you any helpful links but, if I were buying new, I'd start with Toast, Cos or Uniqlo, depending on how much spare cash I had.

Miniroofbox · 23/08/2021 07:23

I love wise legs and the best ones I’ve found are Marks and Sparks jersey wide legs and they’re about £15/20 quid. I had more expensive ones but I love these just as much and they come in a short. And I’m a 5ft size 16

Miniroofbox · 23/08/2021 07:24

Wide legs 😂😂😂😂

There's no rule Flo but they don't hide your thighs...they just make you look like your legs have no shape. I can say this because I've got the legs that mean they don't flatter me either....I'm not saying they don't flatter your waist or arse but your legs? No...they won;t.

Putting baggy shit on big shit just makes it look bigger.

Miniroofbox · 23/08/2021 07:27

The Marks and Sparks ones aren’t ridiculously wide they just kind of skim your thighs. They’re great and I think they’re flattering and my 22 year old tells me they look great on me and she would tell me if they didn’t 😂😂

DGFB · 23/08/2021 07:29

Hobbs, I bought the best pair of thick wide leg trousers from there. Pricey but worth it for the cut

Floisme · 23/08/2021 08:44

As you say, they take the focus away from my thighs and draw the eye to my waist instead. I like that. I know of no garment that gives me a perfect body (whatever that is) but I find certain clothes will highlight some areas while distracting from others, thereby giving an illusion of a different shape. A narrow leg gives me another look entirely and makes me feel different too and sometimes I prefer it that.
I mostly wear trousers and I'd never stick to one shape or consider one off-limits. I'd rather play around and find ways of making it work

MaryLennoxsScowl · 23/08/2021 09:35

I’m with @Floisme - I have sturdy thighs and am somewhere between hourglass and pear (don’t have saddlebags as such, just ample haunches), and I love wide-legs, they hide my thighs and draw attention to my relatively smaller waist. I have some lovely Zara wide-leg and balloon jeans though I had to cut 4 inches off the hem as I’m short (5’2). Monki do good ones too.
