Plus size clothing - where to shop?

Cluelessgardener · 22/08/2021 19:22

I'm so sick of never finding nice clothes that fit me well. I'm an 18/20 and find it's always the same stuff. T-shirts with cheesy slogans, cold shoulder tops, baggy stuff that just hides my lumps and bumps. I'm not body confident but I know wearing a sack doesn't do anything for my figure.

I find places either frumpy or on the other end and too revealing.

If you're plus size where do you shop? Please help me restore my faith in the fashion industry for ladies with a little extra weight.

I enjoyed some of the dresses from simplybe, but following thread as I'm the same

Lj8893 · 22/08/2021 19:31

I’m a 16-18 but was an 18-20 last year.

I shop in New Look, Missguided, SHEIN, ASOS and River Island.

goose1964 · 22/08/2021 19:32

I'm a 16-18 and I buy from loads of different places, M&S mainly for tops, Monsoon is my guilty pleasure but only in the sales. I've nice dresses from Patra and weird fish. Next is my go to for joggers.

MrsPnut · 22/08/2021 19:33

Seasalt, Next have loads of brands making larger sizes. Joules, Boden occasionally and White Stuff or Fat face. I can only wear natural fibres so it rules out lots of places.

Florencenotflo · 22/08/2021 19:34

I like Yours Clothing. They have shops or I use their website. They have their fair share of cheesy slogan t-shirts and cold shoulder tops, but look past that and I've had several brilliant pairs of jeans (they actually do short, reg and tall length too) which is handy when like me, you only have a 26" inside leg 😂

I also love a lot of their dresses, especially for work or casual dresses for wearing out with the kids etc. All reasonably priced too, sales are quite regular. And they do next day delivery which has been handy!

LookItsMeAgain · 22/08/2021 19:36

My advice is to follow someone like @stylemecurvy on Instagram and see if there is anything you like that she wears.

She's just done some modelling for George @ Asda and they look like they'll have some lovely pieces coming into their stores soon.

StCharlotte · 22/08/2021 19:37

All of the above. Also Violetta by Mango.

Nitgel · 22/08/2021 19:40

Done Free people clothes go up to that size

Willowwarble · 22/08/2021 19:49

I feel your pain, I have found a few nice things from Live Unlimited recently, not cheap but seem well made and as flattering as I could hope for. From another recommendation on here I also found Ulla Popken, some stuff too pricey for me and some slogans but there are some reasonably priced classic stuff as well.

HalzTangz · 22/08/2021 19:52

I've bought some nice stuff from Next, Sainsbury's and Asda over the last few months

nancybotwinbloom · 22/08/2021 19:55

I've just got a couple of nice dresses from boohoo

Flatdisco · 22/08/2021 19:56

I'm a 22 poss a 20 in places. I shop at ASOS, H&M plus size or larger size in their straight size range, sainsburys TU, occasionally simply Be, m and s but not for much and used to buy from Dorothy perkins online but not much now.

I've bought once from booho and have gift from Shein. Boohoo isn't good quality (from the one item I have) Shein was decent but not sure on their sizing.

I find lots of shops which claim to go to a 22 or more in their standard range don't fit too well. So maybe I'm not actually this size, but I'm fitting in this size in most of the places I've mentioned above.

BrilloPaddy · 22/08/2021 20:00

Simply Be used to be amazing, but lately has become very low quality. I've had so much stuff that is fit for the bin after 3/4 wears.

I like White Stuff; Joules; Seasalt and Roman. Adini are good for tunic tops and Box 2 - both are more mature market aimed but good quality. Live unlimited can be unpredictable in terms of quality but I've got some good work tops from there. And Blue Vanilla Curve are great for budget. Special occasions - I'll go to Monsoon, Chesca or John Lewis.

UserNameNameNameUser · 22/08/2021 21:34

What is your budget OP, and what sort of look would you like?

I like Seasalt’s plain pieces (their waterdance trousers are amazing if you have a bit of a tummy), and their T-shirt’s tend to be a nice weight so they don’t cling to lumps and bumps, but personally I think a lot of their prints look a bit frumpy.

Fatface and White Stuff are nice for something a bit more fun and seasonal.

Kin at John Lewis are great for quirky classics - boxy jackets, cropped trousers etc.

H&M do have nice classic pieces too - once every couple of months I look to see what they have new in natural fibres - silk and cashmere for example.

PhaseEight might be worth a look too, although for the last couple of years I’ve not liked them so much.

DelphiniumBlue · 22/08/2021 21:49

How old are you OP and what sort of budget do you have?
I'm 18/20 and have recently bought form Live Unlimited ( dress) M&S (denim jacket) and Gudrun Sjoden (dresses in L or XL), and a printed linen shirt from H&M.
I have to say I think Fatface/White Stuff/Seasalt can all be a bit frumpy, unless you are a lightly tanned under 30 year old with flowing blonde locks and a bit of a Cornwall beach vibe. And even then, it's a bit wholesome looking and wishywashy.
I have sometimes found things in Mint Velvet but they do tend to choose a very limited colour palette each season so if those colours don't work for you there's nothing to buy there.
I haven't found anything nice in a supermarket for a couple of years, except Asda pull-on bras which I love.

DelphiniumBlue · 22/08/2021 21:52

Oh, and Sahara has some nice things although I think it's aimed at an older buyer - they do some lovely colours and prints on decent fabrics. They are expensive though, I'd only buy in the sale.

Artonthefridge · 22/08/2021 22:08

I'm a size 20 right now (go up and down between 18 and 20....hoping to get back to a 16) and I use:

Marks for underwear, bras and trousers.
Joanie for dresses, t-shirts and jumpers.
Lucy and Yak for dungarees, jumpsuits and dungaree dresses.
Redbubble for cute t-shirts.

I'd love to buy a few Boden dresses but they are bonkers expensive.

Cluelessgardener · 22/08/2021 22:10

Thanks everyone, a day of online shopping for me tomorrow.

@DelphiniumBlue I'm 33 and don't usually spend a lot on clothes. I could afford to spend more but it's probably some deep rooted problem with my self worth so we'll save that for my therapist 😜

I get most of my clothes from eBay to be honest. That way I can afford more interesting styles. I look for Rundholz, Ishiko and occasionally Gundren Sjoerson.

Basics such as T Shirts and jeans come from Uniqulo and Seasalt
