Hey you lovely stylish lot! I need your expertise to help me accessorise this dress for a wedding. It has dusky pink undertones. I am wearing the black leather All Saints belt with it, so I'm looking for shoes/bag combo with an edgy look, plus anything else you think might work!
I know you will do yourselves proud! Thank you!!

When is the wedding? Do you want to stick with black for the accessories?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/08/2021 08:42

I hate the word edgy so much!

Maybe some block heeled slingbacks if formal? Two tone nude and black? This sort of thing? www.johnlewis.com/l-k-bennett-hattie-leather-slingback-shoes-nude/p5493594

Buy shoes that you can wear again if that makes sense, cos that dress isn't worthy of shoes that cost £200.

How formal is the wedding? That's quite a rocky look for a wedding.

Miseryisabutterfly · 21/08/2021 11:04

Either of these might work? Are you definitely wearing the belt? I think a thinner belt in a pinky nude would look more weddingy.

Oh no! Now I am wondering if I should look for a different dress! Is it really that bad? I haven't been to a wedding for about 10 years! I don't do 'grown up' very well despite being 40!
Any other suggestions most welcome!

It’s quite a going out dress rather than a wedding one.

I would soften it with a slim gold belt and some black pointy sling backs and then a light grey blazer might work. But not sure about the blazer with the high neck.

I wouldn't be aiming for an 'edgy' look for a wedding, personally. Are you normally a confident, bad-ass, rock-chick kind of person?

If not, I'd be tempted to go with 'pretty'.

SummaLuvin · 21/08/2021 11:37

It's so hard to judge a dress when it's just on hanger, so many look sad and rubbish but completely different when on a body. Something well fitting and nicely cut can really elevate items which otherwise might be drab or not 'enough', OP says this is All Saints, which in my experience are quality, well-constructed garments.

Fabric is also a major thing when it comes to formality - silky, luxurious fabrics will make a dress look 10 times smarter than jersey even if the same cut and pattern, this is hard to translate in low quality MN pictures, so all is not lost OP!!

If this is an Autumn wedding I would be very tempted to wear a black leather bag and lace up heeled ankle boots. Don't forget a hat too!!! You can hire amazing hats these days, so don't have to worry about splurging on things you won't rewear.

Oddbutnotodd · 21/08/2021 11:44

The belt is All Saints not the dress. I would choose a softer shade than black for accessories- agree don’t go too edgy

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 21/08/2021 17:47

It's really hard to tell what the dress actually looks like on the hanger. Have you got a picture of it on a body?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/08/2021 18:19

I definitely wasn't suggesting pay £200 on shoes btw - just offering a suggestion of style.

I quite like the dress but don't think the belt works terribly well with it.

Atalune · 21/08/2021 20:55

Nude or tan shoes would be good.
