Foundation is too orange

Can I do anything with a foundation that is too orange? I got the new avon serum foundation and its lovely except for the colour. Is there any way to salvage it?

I might try mixing it with moisturiser but I don't that will affect the colour.

I would have thought the right colour is the most important factor of a foundation, though. It would be easier to change the foundation. However, you can get foundation drops that lighten or darken the foundation but I don't know if they move the colour away from orange or make it a deeper orange. I'd think it'd end up cheaper to just find a different foundation.

I find it really difficult to pick colour cosmetics from Avon. I have oily skin and ozidization can cause foundation to have and orange tinge. Do you use primer? I find that helps

TheWeeDonkey · 19/08/2021 08:35

Oh and match the shade to your neck not your cheeks, thats a good tip I learned somewhere.

I’ve used white foundation before to lighten ones that are too dark, but if the tone isn’t right in the first place it’s still going to look orange, just a lighter orange.
You might need to feel a find a new cooler toned foundation.

Return it,Avon will swap it.

Yes, I know, I'll mention it to the rep next time.

I have used lightening drops before and like a PP said, they just made the foundation pale orange.

FreekStar2 · 19/08/2021 20:36

Just mix a pale shade of foundation into it.

I'm always mixing shades- skin is not a constant colour it changes all the time with the weather and seasons. I have pale ones for winter and darker ones for summer and in between I mix them together in varying proportions to get the correct shade.

If it's too orange (usually because you've chosen a cool/pink shade)- mix a yellower toned foundation in.

@FreekStar2

If it's too orange (usually because you've chosen a cool/pink shade)- mix a yellower toned foundation in.

It's the other way around - orange means it's too warm toned for your skin.

So you would need to add a cool toned foundation to it but even then the chances of you getting the right colour are fairly slim!

Returning it's the only way to go!

Honestly, it's just easier to go out and get a new foundation. There are tons out there for every skin type, for every finish, for every level of coverage. But maybe the rep has some samples use could try to nail down the right colour. Orange might be the wrong colour but some foundations oxidise after they've been put on so you need to consider that when ordering a new colour.

FreekStar2 · 20/08/2021 07:41

@wheresmymojo Yes, in theory, orange is warmed toned- but makeup companies make their supposedly 'cool toned' foundations very pink which on the skin looks orange! Their warmed toned foundations are often more yellow based. If you have a yellow undertone- pink foundation turns orange! Mixing in a more olive-toned foundation will tone down any orange effect.

FreekStar2 · 20/08/2021 07:45

It's hard to know why it looks orange without seeing which shade you chose OP

3Br1tnee · 20/08/2021 08:04

I'll give it back to the woman and order my usual colour. I ordered a different one because I thought I was more tanned.

OP posts:
BusterGonad · 20/08/2021 11:36

You could always order your usual and then add a drop of the darker one as you tan? If the usual is too fair for you at the moment.

3Br1tnee · 20/08/2021 14:19

That's a good idea.
