URGENT!! Crisis of confidence in ball dress. would separates do????

I am orf to the ball tonight. My dress is OK ish, but makes me feel frumpy. My alternative is a grey silver beaded fitted vintagey looking top and a below the kneee stretch black pencil skirt. Glittery silver shoes.

Dress code for ball is black tie/lounge suit.

WHAT DO I DO? WHAT DO I WEAR??? Can a lady wear seps to a ball???

Pencil skirt combo sounds nice - but is it dressy enough?
Any chance of a sprint to the shops with your credit card? Even if you just pick up an amazing pair of shoes to go with the original dress??

Maidamess · 30/11/2007 14:26

I think (hope) its dressy enough. And thanks for replying! I always leave it till the last bloody minute. My shoes I love. But the dress, not so much.

My friend is wearing a black stretchy v neck dress and metallic shoes, so its not all frou frous and floor length.

I think the separates sounds lovely and entirely appropriate.

ChipButty · 30/11/2007 14:33

You'll be fine with the separates then by the sound of it. Have a great time!

StaryNightSky · 30/11/2007 14:34

Being Black tie / Lounge Suit Means that you can certainly get away with something less formal and dressy than a ball gown. So Sepsare fine with this dress code.

The Pencil Skirt sounds great. The most important thing with any function like this is that you feel FABULOUS. Your not going to feel your best in a dress that makes you feel frumpy.

Great shoes, bags and acc will make an out fits as dressy as it needs to be for any occasion.

Oh and do your hair!

Have a great time

Sorry for poking my nose in, just came across your post. If you don't feel good in your dress, bin it (not literally ). Vintage top sounds lovely. I think if the shoes are good it will be dressy enough.

If you want it more formal and have time for a shop dash what about a long black bias-cut or similar black skirt? Laura Ashley (stay with me) have a long black satin one for £60. Unbelievably top Shop's one is more expensive at £75. Try ringing round and get them to hold a couple of sizes so you can try them quickly.

Fab hair, make up and jewellery will make you look really glam whatever you wear.

Tea Bags. and teaspoons in the frigde

Let the get cold and then put the tea bags over your eyes. When they have started to warm up (10min ish) remove and put the cold spoons over your eyes Bags will be reduced.

If still suffering a little bit of ege white wiped over your bags will dry and lift them.

Trusr me. Used to have to do Black Tie Balls in london with NO Notice having been up for several days. I am the queen of quick fix tips!

Maidamess · 30/11/2007 16:26

You really are a star. Off to get spoons and teabags now! xx
