Nude heels - keep or throw?

From the Kate Middleton era. Will they ever be stylish again??

I was people watching on a Saturday night in Shoreditch (London) recently and there are definitely two tribes amongst younger women, the ones who still get dressed up to the nines with very short, tight dresses and high heels (those thick strappy bondage things mainly) and the ones who look like they are going out shopping, trainers with dresses or really baggy clothes so a complete contrast.

I personally do think heels look dated and hope they don’t come back as I think they paralyse women a bit. It’s not a good look when women at weddings have to take their shoes off or change into flip flops. But there’s no denying they can be very flattering especially in the colour of your skin tone.

@SparklingLime

Charlotte wears some in the new SATC film, fwiw.
Hmm, Charlotte though….

@Bertiebiscuit

Get rid of all high heels - they look frumpy now everyone wears nice trainers - just think of the bunions you won't suffer from
I just don’t understand this. No one wears nice trainers with Corp wear, to formal events, or on nice nights out Ie to a High end restaurant. Sure down the pub or to your local Chinese, but I’ve never seen anyone at a wedding or christening or a posh restaurant or a formal office wandering around on trainers.
LemonRoses · 19/08/2021 08:45

I thought the Kate Middleton era was now. I hadn’t realised she no longer existed.

Nude heels are an essential summer basic for me. I can’t imagine wearing trainers to work or for a supper party or wedding.

There are no nice trainers. There are just trainers.

SparklingLime · 19/08/2021 09:10

“Corp wear”? Urgh, what a hideous term!

Bobmonkfish · 19/08/2021 09:20

There have always been two tribes of going outers, I think. In my city growing up, it was very indie with trainers and vintage adidas tops, and at university up north very dressed up and heels. No coat!

Angryfrommanchester1 · 19/08/2021 09:23

I find that if I keep something and it does become fashionable again, there’s still something about it which is still unfashionable I.e. square toes, round toe, heel shape etc. So whilst it’s appealing to keep stuff it may still not be what you want?

“Corp wear”? Urgh, what a hideous term!
Confused
DoylyCarte · 19/08/2021 10:00

@Bluntness100 Probably could be considered a hideous term because “Corp wear” sounds like it should be in a funeral home due to the Latin insinuation of “corp” to corpus- ie body… It also just sounds a bit wanky 🤣

But I agree that heels still have their place 😊

Creuset · 19/08/2021 10:01

If they’re the Sleigh ones (with the platform), absolutely bin.

If they’re classic courts with no platform, absolutely keep!

EvilPea · 19/08/2021 10:02

I wore mine a few weeks ago. Didn’t realise they weren’t fashionable Blush

I always wear sleigh ones as I like the look of them, plus I’m short so every mm counts

MapleMay11 · 19/08/2021 10:44

@Josette77

When did heals go out of fashion? I don't wear them every day but I also don't get dressed up and throw on doc martens. And I wouldn't take my style cues as a 40 yo woman from teens.
They're not out of fashion unless you only follow high street trends. There were plenty of heels at the Autumn/Winter 2021/22 fashion shows - mainly platforms.
ElspethFlashman · 19/08/2021 11:20

I have a pair from Dune with a wooden effect heel.

I was looking at them the other day and thinking when am I ever going to wear them? I don't even think I can wear them to weddings as the heel is wood looking so they're probably not even dressy enough for a wedding. They were definitely of the era when we wore nude heels to the pub.

Ive since moved out to the country and am surrounded by country pubs! I really should bin them. Confused

BasicB · 19/08/2021 11:25

I’ve got wide feet and always struggled to find heels that fit. I never found them comfortable but would wear them for special occasions if I was wearing a nice dress.

The shoe I loved from 2006-2013ish were ballet pumps - those and skinny jeans were all I wore! Now I wear DMs (boots and shoes), trainers and Birkenstocks

MyFloorIsLava · 19/08/2021 11:30

Charlotte's outfit isn't screaming 'fashion' to me Grin

Nude heels - keep or throw?
ShrikeAttack · 19/08/2021 11:37

I don't think heels are 'frump central, there's threads on here all the time proclaiming the death of heels. You only have to look at the catwalks, a copy of Vogue, Matches or Net-a Porter to know that heels are most certainly not dead.

And then someone pops up to proclaim 'young people wouldn't be seen dead in them', strangely enough I don't take my style inspiration from 20 year-olds who shop in H&M!

It's absolutely fine if you don't want to wear heels, there's loads of (non-trainer) fantastic flats around, but to declare them 'frumpsville' and 'over', is a little bit silly.

On a tangent, I remember being so fucking excited when I moved from my SE home town to my university town and realised that I no longer had to wear skirts, strappy vest tops, heels and - yes - no coat to fit it on a night out. In my new town we went out in jeans, fitted t-shirts, trainers, DMs and Birkenstocks in summer. Parka and duffel coats when it was cold. Suddenly going out was comfortable, warm and fun!!
allycat4 · 19/08/2021 21:55

Genuinely grateful for all the opinions! On the basis of your feedback...

....drumroll

...they're going!!

I have a pair, only worn once about 5 years ago but I’m not throwing them as they are comfy and I have some pink dresses that look better with nude shoes (if I ever manage to fit into the dresses again). I’m a bit of a shoe hoarder though.

brokenbiscuitsx · 19/08/2021 22:39

Keep, I think they’re a classic.

From someone who threw away a khaki military jacket and a gorgeous emerald green velvet blazer years ago and regretting it! Blush
