Wax burns from beautician

I went to a long established beautician/salon on Friday for a brow wax and tint. I’ve been once before and it was fine.

I warned the lady I go very red and I wouldn’t say it hurt much more than normal. However after a couple of hours I realised it was still hurting and getting worse. Woke up the next morning and I have burns all around both brows. It’s been awful, really painful, one part started to weep but slowly scabbing over.

I emailed the salon on Sunday but realised it was closed yesterday too. I still haven’t heard anything.

My DH thinks I should complain but what do I say. Obviously it’s not good enough but they can’t exactly correct it/make it up to me.

Would appreciate your advice.

As it didn't hurt more than normal it might be that you are allergic/sensitive to an ingredient in one of the products used, which sucks for you, but isn't their fault. I would talk to them, see what they say, if you have developed a sensitivity you need to know what to avoid.

I went to the same place for the same treatment four weeks ago and had no problems. However I’ll ask if they’ve changed the brand they’ve used.

Did they carry out a full consultation and ask you about any medications you take and what skincare products you use?

Retinol and vitamin C amongst other things can cause this issue. Have you changed any skincare or been out in the sun or used sun beds recently?

So many things that could have contributed to this and not necessarily the salon/therapists fault. Presumably they wax lots of eyebrows every day so unless it’s happening to a large percentage of their clients it’s more likely to be something related to you (an allergy or sensitivity) than them.

It may well be burns from overly hot wax, I’ve had it myself. The temperature should be lower for face, but may have been hotter for previous clients’ leg waxing, for example. The salon may try to blame an allergy like pp.

It’s really not an allergic reaction. It’s most definitely a burn. I don’t use any retinols or Vitamin C. There is no mistaking it for anything but a burn. I will ask if they’ve changed their products but it’s only been four weeks since I visited last.

This happened to my daughter under her arms two days before her wedding..nightmare 😡

Lumpwoody · 17/08/2021 14:25

I had this. Turned out wax was hotter for the person before me and hadn’t cooled down enough.

I now go elsewhere.

I had this.
Caused by the lady repeatedly pulling the same spot.
Beauticians are in the same category for me as hairdressers - I don’t go unless absolutely unavoidable!
I cut my own hair, do my own nails and epilate body hair (I find the wax strips really hard to get on with)
