Bruising??

I am very fair, and bruise quite easily. I have no idea why. But my legs are often adorned with brown and green bruises. Last week to my horror I discovered I've also got a rather large (larger than a £2) dark black and green bruise on my upper outer thigh. It's been here for at least a week and a half now. No clue how I got it. It doesn't really hurt.

My question is, does anyone know what can prevent / lessen bruising? Am I deficient in something? Is there some kind of supplement that I should be taking that can help?

Have you ever spoken to a doctor about it? You might need your platlet levels checked.

No I haven't. Never really gave it much thought to be honest until I noticed the black one on my thigh. I have small children that use me as a bouncy castle and am also a bit clumsy at times so just always figured it was bound to happen

I'd make a routine appointment. I imagine anything odd with your platlets would have come up any time you've had a blood test but worth asking them.

Thanks for that. I'm due for some hormonal blood work. I wonder if I could ask them to do it then.

I have health anxiety so trying not to google anything about this as I'm sure I'll return from my search with a death sentence somehow Confused

I'm the same! Bruise like a peach Grin Sometimes I get random massive ones and I have no memory of how I got them. I have hypermobile joints though and have been told it's a side effect of that. Any connective tissue issues?

Ellabella222 · 16/08/2021 21:18

Low B12 can be an issue

Do you use a steroid inhaler? I ask, because I do and I frequently get bruised like that.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 16/08/2021 21:30

No steroid inhaler. Not sure about B12. I'm on a keto diet so eat a lot of beef, chicken, pork, duck and fish along with nuts and green veg.

Same, pale thin skin and always covered in bruises, legs particularly. I was up a stepladder last week and have striped bruises from leaning against the rungs. Mention it next time you're at the Dr if you're concerned. For me it has always been like this.

picklemewalnuts · 16/08/2021 21:34

I'm the same. Massive bruises for no obvious reason. Also some hypermobility so that's probably it. Do you get raynauds, op?

I just accept I'm a 'delicate little flower' and demand to be treated as such! Grin

I think it's the children. I remember having no bruises on my legs, but now I too am a human bouncy castle. Covered in them.

You could see if arnica gel helps.

I had this. Turned out to be idiopathic thrombocytopenia. (Took me years to learn to spell that) .. was in hospital on and off for a year having platelet transfusions . But couldn't be stabilised . So ended up having my spleen removed which impairs the immune system. (A bit scary in recent pandemic) .. I only discovered it when I went to see my doctor about tonsillitis. He wasn't interested in my tonsils . Only the bruises (which I had thought a bit strange but no more) .

That was all nearly 30 years ago. So glad he was in the ball or I wouldn't still be here . Get it checked OP !

Some people do just have genetic flukes that mean they have low platlets but its not necessarily something to worry about especially if you don't bleed a lot. Good idea to mention it to your GP.
