I’m 50 and size 16 at 5ft1. I’m also disabled so losing weight isn’t going to happen.

I’m at the “ok this is the new me I need to deal with it” stage.

I live in Marks and Sparks jersey wide leg trousers and tops but I want to look a bit more put together

A thread here just reminded me I have nice scarves I could get out and it with outfits.

What else would you do that’s a quick win in terms of looking more “together”?

I need jewellery - I only have one pair of silver studs and I only have desperately old necklaces that are probably only fit for the bin.

For me the single biggest thing was having my colours done. I always feel like the best version of me when I’m wearing colours that suit me. It’s a bit of an outlay at the start for a consultation, and you’ve not said what your budget is, but I consider mine to be some of the best money I’ve ever spent. Smile

Etsy is great for jewellery.

A decent looking handbag and what my mother calls a 'cloth coat' help. You can almost be wearing your PJs in the Post Office with a good coat on on the winter.

My top tips are don't keep things 'for best' and throw things away that are going bobbly or have holes in etc.

I’d say invest in a good haircut before anything else - you wear your hair every single day!

You may not be a makeup person, so ignore this in that case, but I think picking a thing to make a feature of can work really well. My friend always has a lovely smoky eye, whereas I always wear red lipstick. Even if I have no other makeup it perks my face up and makes me look “polished”.

Thanks some great ideas here!

I love make up but lockdown has me lazy so that’s an easy step up for me to start again.

I think footwear makes a huge difference... for instance jersey wide legs look cool with nice modern trainers but not so much with shoes imho

Also think about balance, if you're wearing wide leg trousers keep your top half neater. Maybe a nice dark wash denim jacket?

Definitely a good hair cut and colour and simple every day make up. 5 mins of morning make up makes me feel so much better throughout the day

Foot ware is an issue. I’m disabled and I have to wear proper lace up supportive shoes. I also can’t wear ankle boots or long boots unless they zip or lace.

I miss my heels so much.

I just got the Dr Martens shoes with the hearts on the top. Not from Dr Marten though. There is always a deal to be had somewhere!
