Waxing aftercare

Bikini wax after care.
I'm after recommendations for best exfoliating and moisturiser products.
I'm currently using what I have already at home, soap & glory scrub of your life and body butter. I'm sure there are probably better / more suitable products out there that can be picked up from shops like boots, I'm just not sure where to start.

Also any recommendations on products for ingrown hairs, I've not really had any issues, would just be useful to have something to hand.

I use Lycon Ingrown X-it.

No need to use exfoliator or moisturiser, it does it all.

Skin Doctors Ingrow Go. Magic. Lasts forever and prevents and/or treats any ingrown hairs. Amazing stuff!

Thanks for the ingrown hair suggestions

Any other bikini wax aftercare advice or tips?

Don’t get it too hot for 24 hrs. No sun, hot baths.

Keep it clean and dry for 24hrs.

I switched to sugaring and find it gives a better result, no sensitivity of the skin afterwards and rarely get an ingrown hair now.

FizzBumblebee · 17/08/2021 14:26

Do many people do sugaring?

Sudocrem for the rash then an exfoliating cream such as ameliorate. Worth investing in a Korea Italy cloth From amazon too although I wouldn't use this for a few days after as it's quite harsh on the skin.

Also not what you're asking but I bought a Phillips Lumea ipl thing last year and it's great. Don't need to wax any more.

Just use the Lumea again every 4 months or so for a top up (have to shave before using it which is a pain but regrowth is less obviously as you've zapped it)

It worked really well on my bikini line as it's coarse dark hair.

I'm very new to waxing so just wanting to make sure I'm doing what I need to and have the right products to hand

My wax lady does both so I'm not sure how common/popular sugaring is to be honest as I've only ever been to one place for both. I think it is pretty mainstream though. It's a couple of pounds more expensive but well worth it in my view as the sugar is applied against the growth and then removed in the direction of growth, so you have a smoother finish with fewer broken hairs. It isn't warm, so no pinkness or sensitivity or need to avoid hot baths etc. So much more convenient.

SirenSays · 17/08/2021 16:23

I prefer sugaring, it's much kinder to my skin compared to waxing. I use femfresh post shave balm. I have heard absolutely fantastic things about Fur concentrate for ingrown hairs.

FizzBumblebee · 17/08/2021 21:13

Interesting, I might look in to sugaring
I guess finding recommendations might be tricky

Either way for now I just want to make sure I'm getting the best out of my wax by looking after my skin and hairs

Op make sure you're having hot wax and not just the old fashioned one they use with strips. Much better and less rash/ pain.

MeadowHay · 17/08/2021 21:36

Sorry to hijack your thread but am 33 weeks pregnant and going for my first ever bikini wax soon and very nervous! Any tips/advice??

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/08/2021 21:40

Hot wax is the old fashioned version. It used to be that the wax was melted down again and sieved to remove the hairs (boak) and re use forever. When I was training many years ago I came across a couple still in salons.

Cold wax, which is the one like runny honey is the new version.

I’m clearly very old if cold wax is now old fashioned.

Don’t exfoliate on freshly waxed skin, ouch,

Leave it two weeks and then exfoliate.

MeadowHay
I can't comment on having it done whilst pregnant but the thought of it was worse than the actual process.
When the first bit was pulled off I said "is that it"
It's really not too bad, smarts a bit when you get very close to the inner parts but it's still ok
You'll be fine, just chat away to them and it will be done before you know it Smile
