Store recommendations for curvy but short dd, 16

DD is a very short person with what is unequivocally a woman's body. She has a bum, hips and thighs (not something I have ever had- she doesn't get her body shape from me!)

She would like some new clothes for starting college next month and I am looking for recommendations of shops that sell clothes that may fit her. I think she hates her body, but she is ready to start finding her style, and has recently started showering every day and doing her hair, which is a massive move forward into adulthood and self acceptance.

Currently she is spending her time in skinny jeans (not flattering, or trendy however she is wary of baggie styles on her short body), band shirts, hoodies (sometimes men's size) or sweatshirts. She will not wear shorts, skirts or dresses (previous self harm scars on her thighs). She is not keen on showing her arms, tshirts ok, vests are a no. She has a leather jacket and she likes ankle boots and converse.

Any help gratefully received. We live near a city with access to most shops, and also happy to order online.

For jeans, you don’t need to look for petite ranges. Summer cropped styles may well work

NiceGerbil · 15/08/2021 21:31

Crop tops are fine. My younger DD feels not ready for a proper bra emotionally can't discuss. She's young. Is maybe a c cup. I've stopped mentioning and just bung in larger non underwire things in her drawer in bigger sizes.

If she doesn't want more support/ doesn't feel self-conscious then so what really. Shape is irrelevant. Comfort is all. If she's not worried about bouncing round a bit then let her do her thing imo.

If you're short you do need petite.

Everything is cut wrong otherwise.

Waist in wrong place, shoulders too wide etc.

I'm on the cusp and the first time I put a petite thing on it was revolutionary! The waist was at my waist! So much more comfy. I've often felt I'm fighting against clothes or my body is wrong. As so many women do. Sadly. Tall short pear Apple slim curvy you name it. Shocking really.

Ah ok, maybe just me, petite ranges don’t work for me but I think I have a normal sized torso and just extra short legs sadly!

NiceGerbil · 15/08/2021 22:29

The waist and sleeve and shoulder thing was a proper omg for me!

I'm on the cusp though. Was 5 3 now 5 2 as shrinking with age Confused

It's really hard to find stuff that fits whatever size shape you are

Men's is easier but thinking just now. It's just their stuff isn't generally so b fitted.

DH jeans he's 6 2 they're often a couple inches too long they just ruck up on shoe nothing unusual.

Women's are usually a bit more... Ugh.

When young I tried on trousers that still have 4 inches too long even if I borrowed 5 inch heels.

They're all cut for women 5 10 in high heels?!

Humph.

I've noticed that loads of young girls are going bra less these days. I'm not weird, I work in a college and have teen nieces!

Good on them not cramming into underwires if they don't want to. Bloody wish I could but mine are huge!

Some shops who do interesting prints and vintage styles which she might enjoy:
Joanie
Harkel
Popsy (if she decides to try a dress)
H&M
ASOS
Collectif
Urban outfitters

Some nice bralets if she doesn't want to wear a bra, they give light support and shaping whilst being comfortable.
