Clothes for 13 year old boy

Our DS isn't the slightest bit bothered about clothes and currently is in Primark's finest. As he gets older, it is becoming more obvious that his friends are starting to pay more interest in their appearance and DS looks quite shabby in comparison.

What are your young teenage boys wearing so I can give DS a few ideas for new clothes?

My ds is 13 too and alot of his friends are wearing boohoo man. I recently got him a tracksuit for £24 and he loves it. He does have the odd Nike hoodie ect but they are so expensive to keep buying.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 15/08/2021 21:53

Our 13 year old is too big for a lot of kids ranges but too small for men’s clothes - particularly in trousers so we’re really struggling.

I’ll watch with interest!

Boatonthehorizon · 15/08/2021 21:56

Small mens sports wear from Sports Direct. Adidas, nike, hype, under armour. That place fits all boys from age 10 to when they will fit real menswear.

Wouldnt be my choice. I dressed him in next and m&s until they stopped stocking his age in shops around his age 10, but Next menswear was ridiculously big on him. Was little choice imo - buy sportswear or go online and not a fan of online clothes shopping.

Mintjulia · 15/08/2021 22:01

My DS is the same, 13yo and not the slightest interest in clothes. So watching with interest

Whattodonow5 · 15/08/2021 23:15

I sometimes think it depends on what region of the country you live in on what's 'in'.

Round here, it's all sports gear and the preferred brands are currently Nike, Adidas, Champion and under armour.
I will say though that at least most of the sports gear I buy him is durable, washes well and in certain fabrics dries fast!

If you have a designer outlet village anywhere near it can be worth heading there for sports clothes bargains. Especially if he's not bothered by having a particular colour/style.
I managed to get ds 2 hooded tops, 3 t shirts, a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a pair of shorts for about £85 from an outlet Nike store last autumn all in a medium men's size. The 2 hooded tops alone should originally have cost £45 each.

Also Costco are currently selling Champion shorts and t shirts for only around £15 each if you're a member there as well.

JD have rubbish sales online but often have good deals in store on their trainers and sales racks where you can grab bargains from.

Sports direct is handy too for lower prices and will have lots of '2 for 1 or buy one get one half price' offers.

DA us 13 next month, but age 15 for clothes, where I can find them!! Too slim for men’s stuff, despite being 5’8”. He had size 9.5 feet and asked for a pair of Vans for out of school. The only item of clothing he’s ever expressed an interest in!

BikeRunSki · 15/08/2021 23:20

He’s not sporty, and has no interest in football shirts, tracksuits etc

Theunamedcat · 15/08/2021 23:23

Mine just likes tracksuit bottoms primark tshirts (mens small at the moment) and my fucking hoodie he has his own but prefers mine 😑

Comedycook · 15/08/2021 23:26

My ds is 13....he wears joggers and a t shirt most days. Either plain in which case I get Primark or otherwise it's Nike.

Mrsjamin · 16/08/2021 06:15

Basic plain t shirts from H&m and primark, more interesting hoodies and tees from skatewear shops. Sports shops cater very well for that age group too. Sports direct is good value.

alrightfella · 16/08/2021 07:05

At the moment it's shorts and t shirts but this will change to joggers and hoodies as it gets colder. He is a small mens in size. Majority of clothes from sports direct, I also go to an outlet village and use M&M direct.

DS is sporty but this also seems to be what all his non sporty friends wear too.

I had to go shopping recently specifically to get him an outfit for a wedding which he wore begrudgingly. He had nothing suitable to wear at all.

Lotsachocolateplease · 16/08/2021 07:15

My ds 14 is into branded stuff and band t shirts
Vans, Levi’s, north face, diesel, hollister, Jack wills.
Denim shorts or sports shorts, jeans and joggers in the winter. Vans or nike trainers.
He has a paper round so spends his own money on any extra tops etc he wants.
I buy online in sales and at designer outlets - nothing he owns is full price!!

HarrisMcCoo · 16/08/2021 07:18

DS is 14 and wouldn't wear a tracksuit. He wears jeans, or combat trousers. We buy from H&M.

kowari · 16/08/2021 07:19

15 year old is in Rapunai tshirts (can pick 7 colours for £50 and they go down to an XS), H&M boys cargo shorts and River Island jeans (go down to a 26/30.

HarrisMcCoo · 16/08/2021 07:20

He can't stand branded stuff. Wears fleeces from places like Trespass, t shirts from Amazon (fruit of the loom) with no obvious logo.

Oblomov21 · 16/08/2021 07:22

Sports Direct, Nike, Costco, Next, anywhere that sells comfy stuff.

Tanfastic · 16/08/2021 07:23

My 13 yr old ds wears a mixture. Mainly gets stuff from Jack Jones (he's a men's medium now and size 10 feet!). The odd bit from Nike or Adidas and primark.

triplechoc · 16/08/2021 07:30

M and M Direct mainly - joggers/T-shirts/hoodies; Next for smarter stuff. I discovered recently that Next men’s chino shorts are sold by waist measurement and also come in a ‘short’ length as well as regular, which was so helpful as the ‘kids’ ranges everywhere were woeful.
Also starting to look at men’s ranges in ASOS.

HelenHywater · 16/08/2021 07:31

My ds just likes to wear joggers, t shirts and hoodies. Either Nike or H&M finest. Air Force trainers

condensationwindows · 16/08/2021 08:07

Another joggers (next small, long leg) and then sports t shirts and hoodies so as others have said, Nike, adidas, champion and under amour.

Trainers are usually Nike or adidas. He’s now a size 10. Grew out of his size 9 trainers in the space of a few weeks!

We just buy small mans from the likes of a local outlet or TK Maxx. The next joggers are £28 a pair.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 16/08/2021 12:44

Mine lives in shorts, t shirts and hoodies. Recently he has started to ask for more branded stuff like Hollister and Northface.

Atlas2021 · 16/08/2021 12:48

If he's not bothered then why are you?

hellololabells2019 · 16/08/2021 13:16

Thanks all for your comments, I'll get looking.

@Atlas2021 you are right- it's easier and cheaper if he isn't bothered! But I also would like him to take some pride in his appearance and his clothes are looking very scruffy now Smile

Miracle29 · 16/08/2021 13:55

OP you sound very much like me. My ds didnt take much pride in his appearance a while back and is started buying him nice Jean's with some nice tops. He has recently shown an interest in Adidas and Nike hoodies but does tend to stick to his h&m jeans. For xmas why not buy him a few nice tops and hoodies to spruce up his wardrobe and go from there. My ds does really like the boohoo man things and alot of children wear them around here and they are not too expensive either. My ds said to me once I can look smart without all the name brand gear and it's true theres so many nice clothes out there for boys. The one thing my ds does like is decent trainers like Nike but other than that he isnt too fussed.

Rosesviolets · 16/08/2021 15:52

New Look boyswear is really good, I've been so impressed with it. Simple good designs and colours with a bit of detail but not OTT and a lot of the stuff mixes and matches well. I think they're just right for that age group.

T-shirts, hoodies and joggers really good quality, thick and soft and wash great.
