What do you wear when it rains?

I don't drive (am learning) so walk quite a bit. I have recently become tired of tight, skinny jeans (and all jeans in general) and prefer looser trousers or long skirts.

Having trouble working out how to keep dry in cooler months.

I have a maxi length navy wool coat which is great but not in a downpour! There's a fair bit of rain where I am, so I get around 10 crisp, autumnal days out of it per year :(

I can see me wearing leggings with everything just so I can cover up in my waterproofs. I always seem to dress for hiking, since the weather generally bullies me out of my cashmere and loose wool stuff.

Baggier styles make it harder to wear wellies, taller boots, etc. But if I am honest, living in the north of England I'm wondering if long flowy coats and trousers are unrealistic.....

With skinny jeans out, the harder thing is trousers now.

I live in a mountainous area in Scotland and we get lots of rain and cold, so I need serious waterproofing.

@Sickoffamilydrama

Thanks *@ConfusedParticle* that is kind the arms are definitely long although I bought an L to XL so I could comfortably fit a jumper and perhaps a jacket underneath. There's no way you could shorten the arms either I don't think without damaging the waterproofing. Although the sleeves are wide enough you can roll them up. Oh and I have longish arms and usually struggle getting some coats to have long enough arms so if it's long on me then it will be long on most!
I like the Leya coat image you posted, too. I once had a long Didrikson's parka, only one tailor would touch it. Did a great job to shorten the arms, which were so long it was comedic. My six foot partner struggled into it, and whilst it was too small for him in general, the arms covered his wrists neatly!

Ah, I can imagine! I only wish there was a decent way to pair something waterproof with a long skirt. It must be possible......a long Mac like Sickoffamilydrama posted is ideal.

Jeez you people are making me reappraise my idea of bad weather 🤣

Proper trenchcoat, knee high leather boots and thick tights if I want to be smart, otherwise I have vinyl trousers and a white waterproof cagoule with a hood

StarlightLady · 17/08/2021 09:41

I wear a sulky face when it rains ☹️

Benjispruce5 · 17/08/2021 09:44

Trench coat?

I've got a couple of Protected Species waterproof coats. They manage the Cumbrian weather just fine.
I quite like tights and skirt/dress with big chunky boots in the rain, because tights dry really quickly compared to jeans.
