Nose marks from wearing glasses (first-world problem)

Looking for advice - I've done some google searching but couldn't find much besides needing to changing my glasses!

I had to get reading glasses this year - they're plastic frames (which I didn't realise was bad) but it means I can't move the frame position on my nose. So...I'm getting marks on the side of my nose. Also when I wear make-up and take my glasses off for non-reading, the make up has fairly obviously smudged where the glasses sit.

I've got stick-on silicone pads which has improved it a little but not enough.

Has anyone else faced this and would you have any tips on what I could do? I'm not sure whether I'm more bothered about the marks on my nose or my smudgy makeup but I know I'll be going back into the office in the next while after WFH and I'm going to be self conscious about it Blush.

It sounds like the bridge (nose part) of the frame is too small for your face.
Some people prefer plastic frames (that fit correctly) as they can be more comfortable than nose pads on arms. I personally prefer the pads on arms as they are more flexible and can be adjusted to suit.

Where did you get them from, specsavers offer a 100 day no quibble no fuss exchange policy so you can change your frames if you're not happy with them.

If they are just off the peg ready readers it is up to you to pick ones that fit.
If you got them from an opticians, just go back and they will adjust them correctly for you (you might need to book an appointment though)

Thank you both, they were from an independent optician but I'm not sure if they can do anything - there are no nose pegs so there's nothing to adjust IYKWIM - but I will go and ask.

The dilemma is I like the shape and everyone says they suit me argh.

I will post back if i get anywhere.

If I wear Double Wear foundation it disguises the marks and doesn't rub off.

They sound like they are just too tight and need adjusting at your opticians. The optician will loosen the arm bits and they then won't be so tight across your nose. Just call in and I'm sure they will sort it quickly, I have done this before.

Carthief · 12/08/2021 23:41

They definitely sound too tight which is contributing to the marks

Re the make up smudging, I actually just tend to put a bit less foundation on my nose and just set with a pressed powder - because there’s less to smudge then the smudge looks less obvious and is more easily blurred out.

It’s a pain though.

Go back to the optician. It is normal and common to have adjustments made after you get new frames. I speak from experience. As a PP said, they will heat the frame and gently manipulate to adjust the fit.

Also, they're always going to smudge makeup if they sit on top of it, so all you can really do it wear less in that area.

Finally resurrecting this - thanks everyone for the help and tips.

So attempt 1 has effectively failed - I only got to go to the optician on Saturday and I asked if there was anything they could do - I got a goldfish face response Confused as if I'd asked for them to do something utterly impossible.

The lady did take it away and did something Hmm but said there was v little they could do.

Anyway I've been wearing them since then and it's no better. Maybe I was just unlucky with the person I met not being expert enough - sigh.

Anyway next step is going to be try to Double Wear foundation - I'm also trying to ease up on the makeup in that area but the bit slightly above that (i.e. between my eyes) is quite red so it's tricky getting it right.

I have learned my lesson for whenever I have to change them! But if I crack this I will post again in case it helps someone else.

Eye primer under foundation where the marks are works well
