Wedding guest dress help!

I have a close family wedding to attend in October and need help with what to wear as I struggle with dressing up. I'm 40, size 8/10. Here are my questions if anyone can advise or post links/pics that would be very appreciated.

A lot of the dresses I like online have models wearing them with trainers so I think I'm looking at dresses that are too casual? Please can you advise what words I should be searching for "dressier" dresses (cocktail dress, etc) or what shops to look at.

Please talk to me about hats/fascinators and blazers for the day. I did want to go for a fascinator having never worn one and not sure how many opportunities I'll have. Other relatives are all wearing them like mothers of bride and groom, aunties etc.. Also a blazer for the day, is this only for strappy dresses? What is the protocol and Where would I look for these items please?

Shoes- in October, am I looking at closed toes only or does it not matter?

Tights (obviously not thick ones) ? - I have quite pasty/veiny legs and not really interested in fake tan. I would not be able to wear a shorter dress with bare legs in the day. I'm thinking midi or maxi length and then no tights? Does that sound right?

TIA

A lot of maxi or midi dresses can be dressed up or dressed down so I wouldn’t worry about them not being dressy enough. You could order a few and pair them with heels and a blazer/ shawl and see how you feel?

Id suggest matching the shoes to the colour on your bottom half and a fascinator to the top half of your outfit. More subtle and classy.

Thank you so much for that tip. Exactly the type of advice I need.

I don't think fascinators are worn so much these days by younger people.

OK, that's good to know. So not for 40 yo then? I guess it's one less thing to have to think about/buy.
