Help! WWYD? HAIR GONE WRONG

Gentlydoesit2 · 06/08/2021 08:24

After some advice on hair please.
I used a blonde dye on my hair. Hate the warmth (ginger tones) so I panicked and put an even lighter blonde on. It helped a little bit still has warm tones, I've been using a purple shampoo but doesn't seem to be doing much! My hair feels like straw

I had a colour consult with a hairdresser to see what I can do to fix it. I was hoping they could go dark but apparently the only thing to do is grow it out 🤷🏼‍♀️
They proposed a full head of very light highlights to reduce the warmth for now but it's going to cost £200 with an olaplex treatment and toner etc....
I feel it's going to take years to grow out and really can't afford the upkeep!!

WWYD??

What colour is your hair? Did you use a bleach to lighten it?

Mrspimplepopper · 06/08/2021 08:28

£200 for highlights, stuff that!

Stop using the purple shampoo it's soooo drying for your hair. Treat your hair to an overnight conditioner treatment instead! Then ask at another salon how much for highlights

dementedpixie · 06/08/2021 08:30

I'd try a different hairdresser!
I can get highlights locally for under £70
If you haven't lightened it enough then purple shampoo won't help.
I dont see why you couldn't go darker tbh as it would be less harsh than using bleach for highlights

dementedpixie · 06/08/2021 08:31

P.s. blonde box dyes can only lighten so much. If you wanted to go quite a few shades lighter then you should use actual bleach

Cocomade · 06/08/2021 08:31

I don't understand why they said no to going dark!?
Try another hairdressers that price and their advise are ridiculous.
Get some Garnier hair food treatment and put it on, it's amazing.

Journeynotdestination · 06/08/2021 08:45

Can you post a photo? Hard to help without seeing the problem.

SoddingWeddings · 06/08/2021 08:49

When I've done this in the past I've just chucked a brown box dye over the top and left it alone for a year..... Pick something brown with cool tones if you don't like the warmer shades, but make sure it's one with plenty of claims of being moisturising and what not.

Gentlydoesit2 · 06/08/2021 08:58

Not the best photo!

I don't think purple shampoo will help.
I would go brown and start again.

Orf1abc · 06/08/2021 09:52

Stick a brown box colour on and you're likely to go green. However a hairdresser can sort it, they'd need to use a filler first to add back the lost pigment and then apply your chosen colour. Lots of fine highlights would also work, if you want to stay light.

Where are you? Perhaps someone can recommend a good but not so expensive hairdresser.

Aztec283y · 06/08/2021 09:57

Brown box dye but one with no red tones and try it on a section of hair from underneath (or better still, snip a bit off).

I did this to myself back in November and the box dye worked well.

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 06/08/2021 09:58

Personally I would dyed a light golden brown. That looks like it will suit your skin tone and it should stop it from going khaki.

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 06/08/2021 09:59

Don't put a brown on that does not have some warmth in it. It is likely to grab on porous hair ring much darker and with a green hue.

Journeynotdestination · 06/08/2021 13:10

I’d say either use a toner like this

Jerome Russell Bblonde Semi-Permanent Toner, Medium Blonde www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07R4TMFYW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_1RMH8P8TSY41EDD0M332?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Or go brown. You need some red in the brown to counteract the green tones.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 06/08/2021 13:18

It's not just hi lights in a salon though

It's colour correction depending on what the condition is like underneath.

Hi loft colour lifts pigment out so you've lifted the pigment out to the level it is which is warm because you needed to lift with a lightening powder rather than a box colour.

It takes hours to add hi lights and lift without actually damaging the hair further on top of trying to get out the brassy tones which are the hardest tones to remove op.

It's either a pre pigment then an all over darker colour or a head packed full of high lift powder in foils and treatments which at £200 is about right

harryandmarv · 06/08/2021 13:21

You see I had bleach highlights that we’re looking a bit brassy & purple shampoo just wasn’t doing anything, I eventually decided I wasn’t going to achieve the blonde I wanted and used this to tone it darker

www.superdrug.com/Hair/Hair-Colourants/Permanent-Hair-Dye/Knight-and-Wilson-PurePlex-Natural-Ash-Blonde-8-01/p/751407#BVRRContainer

It really toned down the brassiness and left it a nice darker, more ashier blonde. I have since gone even darker now though!

I would advise to do a strand test though as everyone’s hair is different!

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 06/08/2021 21:47

Wells T14 or TI8 Toner and 20 volume developer off Amazon and a deep conditioning treatment

HermioneGrunger · 07/08/2021 08:56

Colour correction costs money, it takes a skilled stylist to do a good job without trashing the hair further. £200 sounds about right if they are a colour correction specialist.

user1494055864 · 07/08/2021 09:44

Personally I'd leave it alone. I wouldn't look twice if I passed you in the street. It might not be what you wanted, but it looks ok.
