I am 52, fairly youthful (ha, so I have been told) Yet I am stuck with which way to go with my long hair.
It is still full of natural colour with various hues of mid chestnut and hints of copper, I have a few greys which look like fair strands.
My query is I wish to finally go all in blonde, but I do not know which blonde. I only know that I do not want highlights.
I have never attempted anything with my hair apart from inches being cut off.
What do I need to know before I visit hairdresser or can I tackle it with a DIY box colour, if so which one?
Best wishes. 😊

Find pictures of dyed blonde hair you like then post them on here and people can tell you how the look was achieved?

Then a consultation with a colorist; best if you know someone with well-dyed hair and can ask who theirs is.

Why don't you want highlights?

Thank you, will do that. I really feel I want to challenge myself with a flown blown change, and not feel frumpy, little make up etc, thus this shall be the hook I cannot release until undertaken. I do love my hair but blonde has always appealed. I wore a blonde wig for a party once and I thought it suited plus it had a fringe which I have never had.

A darker blonde might be a shade you like, honey blah blah, I'd treat myself if I were you for the first try, a few different shades may be intertwined using foils but sure why not, you'll love it!! Treat yo'self!!!!

I have natural dark hair and wanted a colour change. I've previously had highlights.

I found a great hairdresser who is a 'master colourist' at a local salon where I had my nails done and she talked me through the options with a free consultation and I'm booked in (8 week wait for an appointment)

She explained The modern colour techniques like balayage and root stretch are give much more natural look and don't need as much maintaining. Having said that highlights can look lovely if you avoid the stripy look .

So I would find a salon you like and get a free consultation because it's an 'artistic technique' I think the results might vary dependant on the colourist . I actually had two consultations As I went back with pictures and had a cut before she coloured it.

Bear in mind I know very little about hair!

Do not try it yourself! Find a local hairdresser with great recommendations and ask their advice. I've gone from dark brown to blonde and it has taken a while. A box dye can not compare to the time and effort let alone the three/four colours I have put through mine. Sounds like you have a red tint to your hair like mine so it's warm meaning ashy tones look pretty awful on me. I'm a warmer golden/beige.

Definitely go to a hairdresser. If you say whereabouts you live maybe people can help.

Be prepared for it to potentially take a couple of appointments and also it's not cheap.

Also highlights is just a term for lightening hair. It's likely how your hairdresser will describe it as putting highlights through your hair. The only other option (apart from balyage and these other new fancy terms which are highlights by another name) is just chucking bleach over your whole head which will look bloody awful. Get highlights/foils.
