I have just turned 33 and went shopping the other day and felt REALLY old. I have always looke young(short , long curly blonde hair bla bla)and bit trendy but i have lost my way. I have ok figure size 12 big ish boobs but everyhting i tried on made me feel old cause the fit was made for teenagers without blobby bits.

At what age did you walk out of Topshop and into Next and think oh well this is it now.

BTW I am very wary of being mutton as my MIL is soo in denial of being 50!!

LOLOL Brangelina... I remember a boy nearly fainting in a nightclub when he realised I was 12 years older than him...

No chance of that now

Blu · 28/11/2007 17:12

Mexx can be good.

expatinscotland · 28/11/2007 20:09

I never saw the appeal of nightclubs even when I was a teen/in my twenties.

Can count on one hand how many times I've been in one in my life.

Expat, me too...horrible places!

Thank God I'm old enough to say that without being laughed at

Monsoon has mumsy stuff but also very very cool younger stuff...I got the best dark red cord jacket there last winter, fake fur lined, it is just so lovely.

They are also great for accessories (I buy all my friends' Christmas pressies there!) Bags and purses and necklaces, all at 70% off. If it was full price no way!

I think Next are the McDonalds of clothes shops - not price-wise but style-wise. In my misspent youth everything I bought there was worn once.

I haven't got a particlar shop I like - if I like something I see then I'll battle with my conscience for a while and if I can I'll get it. Timeless things work really well - I've never really followed fashion. It also means you build up a nice collection of clothes that can be worn season after season. That's not classical clothes, just timeless ones. I have a gorgeous original 50s summer dress that I bought in my teens (when there were still some about!) and road-map legs aside I'd have no problem wearing that now.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/11/2007 07:03

I love Mexx and Esprit. Oh, and topshop. I'm 38.

But then I find Monsoon is made for Women With Norks. And I am not one of those!

2sugars · 29/11/2007 07:26

Hell, I've just realised widgy is 33. What on earth are you worried about, woman? A mere whippersnapper ......

zippitippitoes · 29/11/2007 07:38

if you like something it doesn't matter does it..i like new look river island have got a couple of things from miss selfridge t shirts from dp and some v neck jumpers from primark and next

and a gold thing from monsoon which i agree is over priced but happened to be exactly what i wanted

i'm 50 lol

pirratePiggy · 29/11/2007 07:42

wasn't so much age, as size that prevented me from going to topshop anymore!!!

2sugars · 29/11/2007 07:45

Agree zipp - got a jacket from Primark (dons hard had) and mum tweaked it a bit, put some original 1940s buttons on it (that cost more than the effing jacket) and now it looks fab.

zippitippitoes · 29/11/2007 07:48

ah well it is size infloenced if you grow out of the size range you can't shop in cheap shops or anywhere much

littleboo · 29/11/2007 12:06

Not next, just makes me look too Mummsy ( even though I am, a mum to 3 and 41 now)
Will look everywhere, topshop, zara, warehouse, M&S. Not DP for me ( except skinny jeans) Not really monsoon- too flouncy. H&M sometimes, Newlook, TKmaxx for differnt things.

Slouchy · 29/11/2007 12:08

Avoid Next these days. (mumsy)

Zara, Jane Norman, Bay Trading, much of H&M I avoid. But this may be more to do with my shape than my age.(am 35 next month)

If I were a petite, 'elfin' 5ft2 person I would prob still shop everywhere.
