Hair loss

Anyone know anything about why this is suddenly happening?

I've always had hair come out when I wash it, but recently it's become almost a handful. And then more when I comb it through afterwards.

It's definitely regrowing as when I was last at the hairdressers she said I had loads of really short hairs at the scalp.

I had my last baby 8 years ago. My hair is quite long and I do tie it back a lot.

I don't want to artificially thicken it with sprays/mousse or "add volume", I'd just like to stop it falling out!

Any ideas what I can do or what might help?

I don't know why I'm afraid, but it doesn't sound very nice. There are these caffeine-infused (?) shampoos that are supposed to support hair growth, like Plantur 39. Give them a go perhaps? And I think seaweed supplements also support hair growth.

Have you had COVID ? There is some information coming through (mainly anecdotal at the moment) that, like any other shock to the immune system, it can cause hair loss several weeks/months down the line

I sympathise, the same is happening to me.

No not had covid that I know of.

Just so annoying. Sorry to hear you are suffering too.

My hair has been thinning since I had my daughter 8 years ago, and its really getting me down. I do have an underactive thyroid since I had her but I am on medication so I have no idea why my hair is still shit. What I've found helps is a hair oil I bought from Amazon, Essy hair growth oil. When I was using it regularly my hairdresser noticed the difference in my hair. I did get lazy and forget to use it but have started again. It does get great reviews and its not that expensive. Could be worth a go?

Thanks so much I'll look into it. Had my thyroid checked as well as various other blood tests as I do feel tired a lot but nothing showing up 😩

Apparently stress and diet can effect hair fall and regrowth, and not enough protein in your diet. I think I can tick all of those boxes 🤣 I also try and avoid using heated appliances frequently on my hair and this has helped in the past aswell. Hope you find something that works for you, its a horrible feeling when your hair starts to thin.

Thank you. Diet could be better, but it's not awful.... Just want to try to fix it before it starts to get really noticeable. Think I'll need to try a multi faceted approach!

Biotin supplements are worth a try too.

Have you recently come off the contraceptive pill? I came off it a couple of years ago after going back on it for around 18months after the birth of my second child. After about 6 months of stopping it, I suffered hair loss, which was exactly the same as I experienced after the birth of each child. It's finally growing back but has been really noticeable around my hairline.

I suddenly lost half an inch of hair from my fringe in my early 40’s.
GP told me to take iron, but it never grew back no matter what I did.

No, not been on the pill for about 15 years.

Interesting. I actually started taking Spatone a few weeks ago to see if it helped with tiredness. Probably early days to see a difference I guess, either that or it won't help at all! Sorry to hear it didn't work for you.

I assumed mine was to do with getting older and perimenopause.
I never did find a reason or a cure, I hope you do.
