nice teen clothes - French influence?

dd hopefully off to university and needs some new clothes. She is anti-fast fashion (or at least the look of it!) so no BooHoo or Asos stuff and well-known high street/online stores have nothing particularly inspiring.

Where does nice clothes that are not middle aged (ie anything I might wear - hmmmph) and are not terribly expensive? Are there any stylish online places (sort of like La Redoute) that might yield more than a "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!!!"

Because sometimes it’s nice to do things with your mum ? Confused

I was asking for suggestions, not personal remarks. Thank you to those who offered helpful pointers!

Thought Clothing is good for plain items, I'm early 20s so not a teen but like to think I'm reasonably stylish and they have some nice soft well hanging things.

If she's avoiding fast fashion, Two Seasons stock a range of ethical, outdoors brands with hardwearing, very nicely cut items.

My French 19 and 15 year olds love Monki, Urban Outfitters, Bershka and Brandy Melville. Maybe not typically French but they haven’t worn anything from La Redoute since they were in primary school!
The 19 year old’s style is tiny tops and high waisted flares. The younger one is more huge oversized sweaters and sports shorts with jordans.

Charity shops are in theory great, but….. nowadays (especially round here) they reflect what people were wearing ten years ago, which is Primark. Even the clothes of the, er, passed , are supermarket brands.

When I was young you could alight upon stuff from the 50s/60s, but the equivalent now of 20/30 years ago is 90s and 2000s. Impossible!

Monki- lots of sustainable cotton etc
People Tree- ethical and organic

Depop or vinted for second hand. The ultimate eco friendly way!

MarshaBradyo · 19/08/2021 19:27

Yes you might be better off doing depop etc rather than charity shop

Not as much fun for you though - as something to do together

Sorry for not being able to make any recommendations. I'm very glad to read that your daughter wants to avoid fast fashion and look to a country that actually has some style. Good luck OP and I hope your daughter has a lovely time at university.

Smile thanks. She has purchased an old jaeger dress for a start. The workmanship! Proper finished hems and darts….

I know so glad u said this. I am pretty disappointed with the high street offerings . I can’t wear polyester recycled or not and I can’t stand dropped sleeves on sweatshirts , jumpers and Jackets its a lazy cheap way of not making a proper size related sleeve and the manufacturers must be laughing to the crackle of polyester that the trend continues. Like u said no darts or zips either. Its flat pack clothing.

If you look through facebook there are often sales of vibtage by the kilo touring the uk. Great day out, different and loads of unique bargains

Has she tried shopping for French brands like Maje, Sezanne, Kooples etc second hand on ebay or Debop?

LunaTheCat · 20/08/2021 16:41

I don’t have a teenager and no useful suggestions to add to the brilliance here but it’s ’ nice to remember what I worse as teenager ( lots vintage 50’s stuff as it was cheap and I was so so tiny back then)
When you are a teenager you don’t realise how gorgeous you actually are.
I think lack money also means that I dressed more creatively.
