Has anyone dyed canvas trainers

I put my white superga in the washing machine as they were looking a bit grotty after being caught in the rain. I've worn them all of 5 days and managed to ruin them buy putting by doing this. The glue has stained all round the part that meets the sole.
Im wondering if i could dye them as the look awful now.
Has anyone had any success in dying trainers.

Are they cotton canvas? I've not dyed shoes, but I've pseudo-tie-dyed cotton canvas shoes using sharpies and alcohol. Result was fun and pleasing, but definitely very casual.

I've dyed canvas shoes. FIne with Dylon fabric dye. Disaster with brush on shoe dyes in that they dyed the shoes ok but always smelt. Plastic /rubber/metal bits of your shoes won't take the dye so pick a colour that will go with the original colour of these. The other thing I've done ( discovered by accident) is cleaning grotty fabric shoes by using a lot of neat biological laundry liquid on them. Glue stains complicate things. Dye might not cover up stains, I might try to get them out before dying. Perhaps experiment with a bit of beach or alcohol.

I bleached them last night. One has came up a bit whiter but i think the other one is looking worse. The eyelets are metal and rubber is white so any colour I think would look ok. I'm so annoyed with myself!!
@dilbertian what do you do with the alcohol? I have a tonne of sharpies!

First you wash the item without fabric conditioner.

Then you doodle on it, using the sharpie quite Internet, so that there is a lot of ink in the fabric. Then you drip alcohol on it. High percentage isopropyl is best, but that can be difficult to get hold of in the UK, vodka or surgical spirit is next best. The alcohol causes the ink to spread, and you can use to enhance the doodles. If you doodlr out from thr centre, and drip in the centre, you get a start or flower effect. Or you could drip randomly and get a camo effect.

Whether or not you wait for the fabric to dry before doodling, will also have an effect.

There are lots of YouTubes about this. It's a fun, small-scale project that I have used to rescue several stained items.

I dyed a pair of Superga trainers in the washing machine with a Dylon pod and they came out great. They were quite a bright pink, too bright for me, so I used a purple pod and they came out a lovely dark aubergine colour, but still with pink stitching. The laces didn't take the dye at all though.

Oh aubergine sounds like it could be nice!! I have a lot of trainers and don't actually have aubergine!
