where do you shop?

Next is rubbish - pretty much the only shop left in my small town!

i'm rubbish at online shopping but I've just had a huge wardrobe clear out (3 big charity shop bags worth!)

Need a jacket, tops for work (teacher)

Dresses, undies to fit in a big belly, tights..

What are you all ordering?

Was just going to mention Debenhams in the title Blush

Lovemusic33 · 01/08/2021 20:43

M&S
ASOS

Workyticket · 01/08/2021 20:47

I have one pair of knickers from m&s that work with my horrible big belly. Must search for more!

Looked on asos a few times but never ordered. Are they good for older (43) women?

Roman

Aurorie11 · 01/08/2021 20:49

Tights snag tights

DogsSausages · 01/08/2021 20:51

Boden petite for clothes

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 01/08/2021 20:58

You can buy all the Debenhams clothes from boohoo
Dorothy Perkins
Oasis
Warehouse and many more Debenhams brands are all there and just like you I loved to Debenhams and all my clothes are from Dorothy Perkins lol

lokomojo · 01/08/2021 21:06

Amazon is the place now for pants. Innersy or their own brand.

goose1964 · 01/08/2021 21:06

43 is not older, I'm a bit (OK a fair amount ) older , I mainly buy from Monsoon, M&S, M&Co and House of Fraser. I buy one offs from plenty of others to, my current favourite is grass-fields, an African fashion site. Their clothes are beautiful and only made in small numbers.

Workyticket · 01/08/2021 21:23

It's the online thing I hate! Not able to feel the material, make sure it'll stretch over my massive boobs etc!

I need to embrace it though as I've got rid of so much today!

We have a similar shape and whatnot.

Why don’t you try Stitch Fix? There are threads on here. You enter all your details and likes/dislikes onto the site and they send you a box of clothes. You only pay for what you want to keep or it’s a tenner if you keep nothing.

I never thought they’d find anything to suit my shape but I’ve kept things from both boxes I’ve had so far, and it introduces you to stuff you wouldn’t have known to look for.

pourmeanotherglass · 01/08/2021 21:36

Seasalt mostly

Workyticket · 01/08/2021 21:37

I'll have a look at Stitch Fix, thank you

I think that part of my problem is that I buy cheap clothes even though I couls afford better ones. So even with a cheap shop like Dorothy Perkins I'll sort by price order and buy cheap then wonder why they're shit after a few washes.

Try Roman, I’m usually pleased with their stuff, they are online and also have shops in town centres.
Matalan for basics, and a quick turn over of styles.
To be honest, there is so much choice online, I rarely bother with shops since lockdown.

notnowbernadette · 01/08/2021 21:45

Sadly I've had to resort to buying most clothes on line as there are no decent shops left locally. If you have a big bust i recommend Bravissimo as they do clothes as well as bras. The other option is Boden which is good for work clothes.

DogsSausages · 01/08/2021 21:45

You can buy from Ebay, Wallis Petite have a lot of new dresses on the site

Terminallysleepdeprived · 01/08/2021 21:54

I am 41 and a size 20/22 I am also missing debenhams and dotty p shops.

Shein has some nice bits

Lots of people recommended asos curve and boohoo to me but honestly they stuff is not my style at all. It's all sweatpants and crop tops which I am too old and fat for.

I have no idea where I will be shopping. I am desperately hoping I wake up at a size 14 tomorrow 😫

CornishTiger · 01/08/2021 22:12

I didn’t know Dorothy Perkins had closed.

Worth doing an order now though as half price unlimited delivery offer on

Workyticket · 01/08/2021 22:47

Spent an hour on DP website. Every i thought was nice was maternity wear

Ordered age inappropriate Vans instead from Schuh Blush

I'm not sure about your size and shape @Workyticket but a size 16 will be able to buy from most places. As for 'older', I'm older than you and have done most of my shopping online for nearly 20 years. Online is so much better, even if you live in a city with loads of choice. Online is great!

Rather than your size, what's your budget? That's what really directs your online options.

ShrikeAttack · 02/08/2021 00:27

@Workyticket, if you can afford good clothes, buy them! You are absolutely worth the good stuff.

Why shop at cheaper places when you can buy clothes that make you feel amazing?

Re pants, if you do have an unwieldy middle, John Lewis do a great knicker that comes up over the stomach but aren't control, so they don't squeeze you in, they just skim. I'm a 10/12 and wear them under certain clothes.

I wouldn't spend a minute more on the DP website if I were you.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 02/08/2021 00:40

I'm size 16 and short. I've just bought 2 summer maxi dresses from fatface and Oliver Bonas. They are black, fitted at the bust with A-line tiered skirts.
I also buy leggings and sweatshirts from Victoria Secret. Knickers and boyshorts (like chub rub shorts) from wirapa on Amazon (size up though). Bravissimo for bras.
Harem trousers from Morrisons are pretty good. I buy the black ones because the patterns are hideous imo.

AntiHop · 07/08/2021 10:01

I'm in exactly the same situation @Workyticket. I live in London and Debenhams on oxford st was my go to place. I knew that I could go there and always find something to buy.

I hate buying online. At least the new owners of debenhams allow free returns.

I had to buy some new clothes recently as I've got a young baby and most of my pre pregnancy clothes didn't fit. I got them all in m and s. Now the baby is a bit older, I'm planning a trip to central london to go to wallis.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/08/2021 10:03

I don't understand being rubbish at on line shopping, what but can't you do? Order loads, send back what you don't like. It really couldn't be easier.

Lovemusic33 · 07/08/2021 10:48

Online shopping isn’t always that easy especially if your buying from somewhere you haven’t bought from before, it’s fine if you it all your clothes from the same place and you know their quality and their sizing. I like buying from smaller online shops as I like clothes that are a bit different, usually this means they are more pricy so I’m taking a big risk not knowing what the fabric feels like and wether it will fit, not all places do free returns.

Mumsnet is a great place to find out where to shop, what sizing is like etc.. but I find shoes are a pain to buy online, I have probably bought 6 pairs online this year and none are a good fit Sad, I can’t be doing with sending things back, I live in a rural area and going to the post office is time consuming.

Some of my go to online shops are….
Next (for basics and jeans)
Asos , though they can be hit and miss.
Lucy and yak
Run and fly (dungarees)
Passenger (great hoodies)
Thunder egg
Hush
