Outfits/trousers for bloating??

Freefalling22 · 01/08/2021 15:25

I suffer with endometriosis and when I have a flare up, I can often look 5-6 months pregnant (sometimes for weeks).

I really struggle with outfits/clothes during these times. I'm basically a jeans-and-top person, however jeans are impossible when endo belly occurs. When I suffer, I end up in leggings and joggers but feel Scruffy. The annoying thing is, I lost quite a lot of weight two years ago and bought loads of lovely clothes but can't wear any when I bloat.

So...I'm looking to buy a couple of outfits to allow for when I have a flare up. My main criteria are:
-comfortable but somewhat stylish
-inexpensive as we're on a tight budget
-practical as I have two small, busy children.
-can be worn with flats or boots

I'm not particularly fashion forward but do like to look somewhat put together.
Thank you!!

Try these! Flattering and comfy

I find harems like these are comfy when I'm bloated- look smart enough for work too.

Look at Lottie Drynan on Instagram, she has IBS and does lots of posts on what to wear when bloated.

Freefalling22 · 01/08/2021 17:57

Thank you, a couple of good options there. I'll also have a look at that account when the kids are in bed 🙂

Just came on to say Lottie Drynan!

AvantGardening · 01/08/2021 18:35

Some of the midi and maxi dresses that are in at the moment would work and look great with trainers or boots

Nobranothanks · 01/08/2021 18:40

I bloat terribly as well - I've had to give up with jeans/shorts at the moment and have taken to wearing dresses. This has really helped a lot. I have quite a few smock type dresses for want of a better word that hide a multitude of sins and without making me look pregnant or like a whale!!

I have endo too and at the moment I’m living in M&S combats, Lucy and yak trousers (the ones with elasticated waist), also wearing more dresses and dungarees as they are so comfy.

Another vote for Lottie Drynan! Love the dresses she shares. I also splurged on a pair of Spanx leather look leggings. They come up over my tummy and are so firming that they hold and support the bloat without being uncomfortable. I got my usual size but would possibly size up if buying again just so I can get them on easier. I wear with loose t shirts and lovely soft long cardigans and manage to feel almost pulled together.

Suffer the same as you - it's not fun. I can go from a 31 inch waist to 37inches when it's really bad.

Some great ideas here - same as people above, elasticated trousers are great. I have two from Tesco's which are jogger combat trousers and I wear those most days. For work I have H&M elasticated wide leg trousers which look ok.
But yes, I have mostly ditched jeans and trousers, and live in dresses when it's bad.

Dresses. I have tummy issues and bought this dress in the Boden sale last week. I wore it all day for a city break and it was the comfiest and most flattering thing ever; it hangs and moves like silk, is airy and cool despite being made from (whispers) polyester - I know! Hard to believe but I’m at hot flushes stage so I don’t say that lightly. It doesn’t cling anywhere and is lined, which makes the difference I think. It doesn’t crease either.

I also got complimented constantly, which hasn’t happened for years as I’m at ‘invisible’ age, which was lovely and gave me a huge boost. And as an added bonus it has pockets. Worth the investment.

Hi OP, fellow endo bloater here too! I know exactly how it feels! I’ve actually found that very stretchy high waisted jeans or trousers are the worst, when I bloat, thicker jeans with not much give that come up to about bellybutton level are best. Somehow they just hold everything in.

I’ve also been following Lottiedrynan on Instagram, she has IBS not endo but gives a lot of useful tips and outfits for bloating.

brokenbiscuitsx · 02/08/2021 21:59

Perhaps I should have read the thread, lot of love for Lottiedrynan ☺️

RedSquirrelRoar · 02/08/2021 22:16

Hush do some smart joggers/comfy trousers - I’ve got the amie joggers and the harem trousers.

Spud13 · 03/08/2021 03:32

Maternity jeans?

IndominusRex · 03/08/2021 13:52

Another sufferer here, Endo belly is the symptom I hate the most! Like brokenbiscuits I also find stiffer mid rise jeans better than high waisters. I actually find dresses make me look more pregnant although I agree they’re usually comfiest option.

Fferny1 · 03/08/2021 15:53

These ones from h&m are good.

Another tummy bloater here (diagnosis tbc) sneaking into the party late.

This is such a helpful thread. Thank you for starting it.

I too find mid-stretch and mid-rise Levi’s better than the endlessly stretchy M&S jeggings etc. I tend to wear straight leg jeans or denim shorts with billowing tops most days. Sometimes black, baggy v-neck tees from Zara if I’m feeling bold.

For work, I really like shift dresses with sleeves when in the office. I have also recently discovered Bellerose (as modelled by the soon to be ex Mrs Hancock over that dreadful weekend). Their clothes are generous around the middle and are comfy.
