Packable anoraks...(curb your enthusiasm!)

Does anywhere make comfy, non-sticky version of these?! I haven't had one in years - I have nice Didriksons raincoats but am after something v light and packable that I can keep in a daybag, for occasional showers. I remember the unlined ones I used to have being weirdly sticky on the inside as soon as you got wet 😳

Gap have a nice overhead one but it's a bit pricier than the cheapo Millets ones - does anyone have it? I'm not a massive fan of the cheery Joules-style prints, which is a shame as their styles/cut look nice. Uniqlo's looks too light to be of any use, same with M&S. Ideally I want something not too cropped, with a good-size good and a pocket or two, that doesn't make me feel all clammy as soon as the heavens open! Does anyone have any specific recommendations?

I have one from Tog. Deeply unfashionable but it packs away small into my bag. Which is all I need. I also considered Lighthouse.

LookdeepintotheParka · 29/07/2021 14:58

I have this one from Fat Face and I really like it. Great for light showers (tried and tested recently!) and packs down small to stick in handbag when needed. May be it's a bit cropped for your requirements?

@MareofBeasttown I've looked at the Tog24 ones - their Craven style is on sale and mostly ticks the boxes I think. I was just hoping there was maybe something out there a bit more stylish and pleasant to wear, that I didn't know about 😁

I actually have a beautiful Protected Species anorak that's very lightweight but I'm after something even thinner that packs away really small and won't get ruined at the bottom of a rucksack.

@lookdeepintotheParka I did actually look at those but again, is prefer something that packed into a pocket/its own bag, and I think you're right in that those are a bit too cropped.

Thank you both!

I've got a Berghaus shell which looks like it would feel clammy but IME doesn't (breathable, I think). I had to get another because DD nicked mine when she was going to uni open days and interviews, it's seen her through a 4 year degree with lots of walking and cycling and looks as good as new. Good functional hood and zipped pockets, properly waterproof.

Ours are from a few years ago, I think this is the current equivalent. It's more expensive than the Gap one (let alone Millets) but I can't see me or DD (or DH, he's got the men's version) needing to replace them for ages.

(There are other colours)

Thank you @ErrolTheDragon - I do actually have an old Peter Storm one a bit like that which would probably do the job to be honest. I quite like the idea of an overhead one, though, in a slightly 90s way...

IMO over the head ones are more likely to feel clammy (no option of just opening up the zip all the way to let in a bit of air) and getting them off if they're soaked can lead to wet bedraggled hair, which rather defeats their purpose. Grin

goose1964 · 29/07/2021 19:27

How about this, www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15981303/peter-storm-women-s-parka-in-a-pack-15981303 not horrendously expensive but they last for years.

Daisy62 · 01/08/2021 17:32

I've got a breathable packaway one from North Face. It was expensive (bought as an emergency replacement where there was no choice available) but less sweaty than cheaper ones and I think a little more flattering.

Mamette · 01/08/2021 17:36

I have a joules one which is just plain navy with a red zip.

Fallstar · 01/08/2021 17:38

This one is good. It says it folds into its own pocket but I can't squeeze it small enough so I keep it in a small drawstring bag. It keeps the rain out and it's a good length.

Second the Berghaus Paclite recommendation. I have it in a really nice dark mulberry/maroon type shade. Technical fabrics, so totally waterproof and non sweaty, but also somehow quite flattering for such a practical jacket. It folds up into its own small bag. It has lasted me many years of use, so a good investment.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 02/08/2021 07:30

I've got a 'Kag in a Bag' - had it for about 10 years and still going strong. It's not sticky and packs away easily.

I got it from Millets but you can buy them on Amazon.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/08/2021 08:17

I've got this one in a black print that isn't on sale anymore, but is inoffensive as far as Joules stuff goes. www.joules.com/Women/Clothing/Waybridge/Relaxed-Fit-Waterproof-Raincoat?size=10&id=214272%7CTANLEOPARD%7C10

Caramellatteplease · 03/08/2021 09:44

Tog24 is awesome performance wise but packs into it's own seperate bag not a pocket
Peter storm is pretty good but not as breathable as others.

I have a plain black one from a brand called mammut. I bought at mountain warehouse for about £70, 5or 6years back . It is properly awesome. Completely uncrinkly, soft brushed surface and folds into the chest pocket so no seperate bag.

Katekarate · 03/08/2021 16:20

I've got the UNIQLO one and I love it. I've got quite wet in it and it does work, lovely and light and packs up tiny and not sticky so would recommend, except it's not long it's waist length

Laquila · 15/08/2021 15:14

Afternoon pack-a-mac-ers! Just returned from 10 days in the SW and the weather was mainly good, but changeable, with drizzle appearing out of nowhere and then lovely right sunshine again. I'd taken my usual waterproof but the packable type would have been better as it was rarely cold enough for a proper waterproof - in fact it was v warm a lot of the time, even when it rained! So I'm still in the market for suggestions - clearly I've googled like crazy, as Insta is now showing me lots of ads but they're all pretty pricey...this is the kind of thing I'm looking for, but in more neutral colours and at a lower price!:

How about these: www.macinasac.com/products/origin-packable-waterproof-jacket-ocean

Zooforhouse · 15/08/2021 19:07

Joules! They are knee length though. But breathable and look ok

Laquila · 15/08/2021 20:05

@dalismoustache I've been looking at those - they certainly tick a lot of boxes! Wish they didn't have Mac in a Sac emblazoned across the chest but hey ho 😁

@Zooforhouse are the Joules ones genuinely waterproof and breathable, at least to a fair extent? The mens ones are nice plain colours - can't seem to find a women's one that doesn't have a jolly pattern!
