over the knee socks won't stay up - ideas?

I thought it would be great to buy some over the knee socks, rather than sweaty old tights under my cullottes and skirts, but they just don't stay up. without resorting to an uncomfortable and frankly a little ridiculous suspender belt, does anyone have any good ideas for keeping them up?

little elastic garters and turn your sock over the top of them.

When we were kids, we used to use elastic bands as make-do garters (obviously large elastic bands, we didn't want to cut off all circulation to our limbs)

hmmm. not sure i'll get elastic bands that will fit my not-quite-back-to-pre-preggers-weight thighs. i might go and buy some elastic though. cheers

I think being relatively ample of thigh is actually the problem (I have it too), the top of the sock gets all stretched and wants to turn over. Or maybe it's the lack of differentiation between thigh and knee. I don't know. I meant to buy some of [http://www.sockdreams.com/_shop/pages/accessories_cat_CategoryID_74.php these] when I bought my last batch of socks, but forgot to add them, and am not paying US p&p for some bits of elastic.

thanks dontcallmebaby. They're gorgeous but I'm with you on the p&p. I'm now searching google for sock garters. I'll let you know if I come up with anything good over here

I have some knee socks and over the knee socks from M&S and they stay up just fine. Maybe try theirs?

Sock suspenders, clearly. Bertie Wooster wore them.
