How do you pronounce LAUDER as in Estee Lauder?

I have always said LORDER (as in order)

But a friend of a friend who used to work for them says LOUDER ( as in a loud noise.)

I didn't want to quibble, obviously, but I've never heard it that way before.

I would say lorder, but I suppose as it's French it should be more like Loh-day? Never heard louder.

EssentialHummus · 28/07/2021 19:16

I'd say Louder. But I also say cwass-on, so I'm not sure I'm one to emulate.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 28/07/2021 19:16

slightly more uh than er at the end, so Lorduh, but Louder is clearly craycray.

My friend works for them, she says Lorder like you (and I)!

Guineapigbridge · 28/07/2021 19:17

Nope, it's definitely like louder.
(heard it on an ad once)

Happy36 · 28/07/2021 19:18

LOW-deh (ex OH worked there; we are French).

StarryStarrySocks · 28/07/2021 19:20

Law-der. As in Harry. Grin

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 28/07/2021 19:22

I don't think ads can be trusted
I thought micellar water was mice-ellar water but then heard a ad call it missler water so, like a fool, I changed my pronunciation. A new ad calls it mice-ellar so now I call it make up remover Grin

meido · 28/07/2021 19:23

It’s louder.

Geamhradh · 28/07/2021 19:40

The Lauder family is American, so almost like "larder" without pronouncing the R in the middle.

megletthesecond · 28/07/2021 19:42

I thought it was 'Louder'.

ILoveShula · 28/07/2021 19:54

Law-der

Geamhradh · 28/07/2021 19:54

If you listen to how Estée and now Aerin say it, it's a cross between lorder/louder. Kind of lahda but with a tiny "u" hint after the "a".
