Teenage boy holiday wardrobe

What do you pack for a teenage boy for UK holiday and how much would you take. X
Aiming to eat out a few times, so would you expect them to get changed ?
It's so much easier when heading to Spain 😂 I just pack t-shirts and shorts!!

Shorts (x 4?)and t shirts (x 7?)are fine for the most part.

2 x hoodie for evenings abs pair of joggers for cooler /wet days and jeans if they wear them.

Swimming stuff /flip flops /trainers waterproof coat /own rucksack

For eating out- just any clean non sportswear clothes and wear them the next day. (But I'm sure sportswear is fine too )

Assuming it's a coastal / country type holiday not a City break.

cherrypiepie · 28/07/2021 20:11

I would expect getting showered and changed before going out for dinner but whether this would pan out in reality is another matter.

MidnightMeltdown · 28/07/2021 20:18

Teenage boy has his case packed for him? 😮

user1493494961 · 28/07/2021 20:18

I would let him sort his own clothes, my pre-teen grandchildren pack their own bags.

Grin

This would work with dc who are semi interested in clothes.

My Ds1 (13) couldn't be less bothered about what he wears though. Letting him pack for a trip would result in him taking two mismatched football kids, a pair of joggers, one t shirt and some sliders and thinking 'that'll do' for four days 😂

I would love it if he would pack his own clothes but I don't fancy him being on holiday with dirty t-shirts and a pair of joggers and nothing else!!!!

I would get teen to lay clothes out on bed. I’ll would then do a quick once over to check they haven’t forgotten anything (underwear!) before they pack.

T-shirts x 5-7
Underwear
Jeans x1
Chino x1
Shirt x 1-2
Shorts x1-2 (depends on weather forecast)
Hoodie x1
Jumper x1
Trainers
Sandals/flip-flops
Canvas shoes/shoes - to wear with chino
Walking boots?
Waterproof
Swimming gear

For going out for a restaurant meal, I like them to change into a shirt.

If the weather forecast is very hot (or cold), quantities can be tweaked. However, in this current weather, you probably need everything!

Standrewsschool · 28/07/2021 21:03

Missed off sports gear of list for any sports activity they may do.

PeacheyPeach · 29/07/2021 11:40

Thanks @standrewsschool that sounds like a great list. Looking at that we only need to go and buy some new shorts I think. He refuses to wear chinos and a shirt (even though he looks so nice in them!) So may buy him a smarter pair of jeans aswell . Hoping weather picks up so we arnt huddled around in our wet weather gear 😢😂

@cherrypiepie thank you for your list x yes coastal holiday so will need to remember the swimming gear aswell.
The showering before dinner is something I expect but always turns into a small war. What is it about boys not wanting to wash 🤣

In a few years you will not be able to breath for the clouds of Sauvage/ million/(or Kouros in1999) and the super-long showers.

I don't think any teen I know would wear chinos unless I see duress at a wedding or cruise! Maybe compromise with chino shorts and a polo top?

I'm very jealous of you beach hols by the way OP and planning my outfits as if I was going Grin

I have two city breaks instead! Have an amazing time!

Standrewsschool · 29/07/2021 21:23

When I say chino, I mean the skinny variety. My dc used to wear a wine/burgandy pair a lot at one point, more than jeans.

DelphiniumBlue · 29/07/2021 21:46

I'd remind him to pack sufficient T-shirts and underwear, a hoodie, shorts, jeans/long trousers and maybe joggers. Also 2 pairs of footwear, and a waterproof jacket. Swimming stuff if that's on the agenda, washing kit, phone & charger. A book, cards, and drawing equipment if he's that way inclined.

newnortherner111 · 29/07/2021 21:48

Glad you think he should pack his own case. Avoid having a man child in ten years time. Painful but a worthwhile investment.

afromom · 30/07/2021 20:26

Reading your lists I feel rather lacking as a parent in the equipping DS17 in the clothes department.
He absolutely refuses to wear jeans, chinos, any form of trousers or shorts that are not of the jogger variety (Nike/Adidas/some designer types I've never heard of). He also has no wet weather clothes, no shirts or polo shirts!
He literally lives in joggers, football/sports shorts and t-shirts! He does have one pair of slight smart skinny black cargo trousers 🤦🏻‍♀️ He also only has trainers for shoes, no sandals/canvas shoes/smart shoes 😩
But at least packing for holiday is easy 😂

Standrewsschool · 30/07/2021 21:04

@afromom

DS has lived in sports clothes for the last two years, and the only time we got him out of sports clothes was on holidays.

Now, aged 19, (and earning his own money), he suddenly brought some clothes for himself. Also, they quite bright colours, and not the black and navy he's favoured in the past. I’m sure if I’d bought them, he would have rejected them.

afromom · 30/07/2021 21:11

I'll live in hope that he extends his taste then over the next couple of years! He has been choosing his clothes now for a few years (probably since around 13/14) as he's so picky. Most of them are bought for Xmas and birthdays as he will only wear expensive ones. I've tried buying cheaper 'essentials' and they just live in his drawers so I gave up!

rookiemere · 30/07/2021 21:15

DS15 packs his own case and has done since he was about 12. If he forgets something then worst case scenario we'll just buy a replacement from Tescos. I assume he's brought enough clean underpants and socks with him as hasn't needed any to be washed on last day of week long holiday.
