A well cut pair of jeans…

I’ve read a few threads recently where people have been talking about looking more polished, investing in nice clothes etc, and several people have recommended getting ‘a well cut pair of jeans and some decent ankle boots’

I’m wondering what makes a well cut pair of jeans, is it style, brand, or something else.

I’m in my fifties, 5’6” and size 12, with shortish legs. At the moment I only own one pair, Baukjen boyfriend jeans. I personally wouldn’t describe them as boyfriend, more straight leg, but they look nice

Recommendations for jeans and ankle boots welcome!

I’ve just found my holy grail of jeans after being let down by my usual go to store (Next)

Calvin Klein! Not normally a ‘label fan’ but I like high rise skinnies that actually sit on my waist (most ‘high-rise’ that I have tried are too low for my liking) I ordered the CKJ010 ones.

I've worn 7 for all mankind jeans for years in various styles - whether cropped, flared, bootcut, straight or skinny they may me look slimmer and taller.

They're expensive but you can get them half price on sale and in next clearance section. Great flattering shape and well made and keep their shape.

Thanks both, I’d totally forgotten about both those brands. I don’t like Next the shop, but had some really good bargains recently from their brand clearance. Just had a quick look and they have a couple of pairs but only small sizes.

I think it's about being well cut for you. A shape that you like and fits your body.
On the'polished' threads it's probably about a shape that's not too extreme or 'fashion', and not distressed.

I think you need to try a lot of pairs on to see what suits you. Somewhere like Selfridges that has a huge range.

Presumably you have some idea of what doesn't suit your shape though? I know I can't wear boot cut jeans as they just make me look awful (I also have short-ish legs).

I have just bought some Agolde jeans in two colours after trying them on in a local boutique. I also have a few pairs of Rag & Bone jeans. Whistles too. I wouldn't know which levis to get but I saw someone in a really lovely pair, so am thinking that I need to go and try some on.

I've had Baukjen boyfriend jeans before which I wore to work with heels. I don't think that they last as long though as the premium brands.

I prefer high waist jeans at the moment as I think they do extend my legs and am currently wearing mom or barrel jeans.

I don't think 'well cut' really means anything to be honest. The basic point is that they look cut for your body shape because they fit you well, which is a case of trying them on until you find a brand or style that happens to cut them in a way that works for your own shape. Everyone's body is different and all clothing usually looks at it's best when it appears to fit well.

Despite trying on tens of pairs my favourite pair are from primark; their vintage slim straight leg at £15 a pair.

I bought 2 pairs of 7 for all mankind earlier this year as after trying on the first pair couldn't believe how well they fitted, however the same brand in black didn't fit me as well.
