Could I please ask for any tips/product recommendations for spotty skin? Mine has never been great but the last month or longer it has been really had. It's getting me down on top of everything else.

Any help is much appreciated. Flowers

What’s your current skin care?

Taoneusa · 26/07/2021 10:27

Have you started eating differently? More dairy/chocolate/fried food?

If not, the inkey list salicylic cleanser is excellent, followed by niacinamide serum.

Thanks @pinkcattydude, it's prob not great. Cleanse using a coconut oil cleanser and then use Astral. I know the latter is cheap but I have used Astral for years and my skin likes it. I did wonder if the cleanser is making it worse although have been using that longer than the spot outbreak.

Coconut oil notoriously causes breakouts….

To be honest adding an exfoliant is probably enough to make a difference I like the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser but the Vitamin E Superdrug one seems good too. I also like Neutrogena spot treatments.

First check - diet and sleep. If either have gotten worse, theyll be contributing. With diet think of sugars, carbs, dairy

Also think of hormones - time of month, premenopausal etc

Cleansers - I'd highly recommend cerave foaming cleanser or salicylic acid cleanser. Both excellent. Coconut oil is great at removing make up but use something else like one of the ones I've mentioned afterwards

I also recommend Cerave. I'm prone to breakouts and I have really annoying combi skin and it's been great for me so far and kept my face fresh. Nice and cheap too.

Thanks all, so helpful. Liz Earle made my skin awful, massive allergic reaction weirdly. I will try Cerave and add an exfoliant plus look at Neutrogena spot treatments.

Diet and sleep not great, signed off work atm as not doing great. I di assume this may be contributing.

I am so grateful.

Regarding exfoliants - a lot of people with spots try to over exfoliate. Avoid that impulse as it can make skin irritated and produce more oil, so more spots. Generally, derms now recommend chemical exfoliants rather than physical scrubs. If the cleanser you get is a salicylic acid one then it already has an exfoliant in it, so no need to add one. If not, then consider something like Paula's Choice AHA/BHA toner every couple of days. If you like physical, use less eg once per week or so.

I currently use:
Cerave foaming cleanser (day and night)
Cetaphil factor 50 moisturiser (day)
Beautypie Healthy Skin moisturiser (night)
Garnier Miscellar water if taking off makeup, prior to night cleanser.

A chemical exfoliant toner 3 x per week at night before moisturiser
Una Brennan Superfacialist clay mask 1 x per week (has salicylic acid in it too).

Sorry random other note on exfoliants - if you use a cloth at any point to remove stuff, that is already a physical exfoliant so dont go overboard with exfoliants. Also if struggling with acne keep cloths, towels, pillowcases v clean. I do pillowcases and small bathroom towel 2x per week and cloths I only use once when I use them.
