Help me make my bikini area swim-wear ready in 4 days!!

TMI alert

My bikini area is a disgrace since I had my baby 3 months ago. Shaving bumps, heat rash, hairy, stubble remnants, ingrown hairs, white as a ghostly plucked chicken - you get the picture.

We have now been invited on a swimming play date on Thursday, at quite a smart pool (attached to a fairly swish spa). WTF am I to do?! I have a Lumea my amazing DH got me but never yet used as no time (bought when pregnant). Not enough hair or time for a wax and it makes me bleed anyway. Shaving is fast but will make the other skin issues worse…help!

My hair is brownish but very thick and ‘well rooted’, hence bleeding when waxed.

Someone must have some magic tips that are going to stop me embarrassing myself in my nice new post-baby swimming costume…

Swimming costume with shorts? There is a thread about it from a couple of days ago.

SinkGirl · 25/07/2021 22:37

Swimming shorts. Wish I’d bought mine years ago

enjoyingscience · 25/07/2021 22:39

Electric razor? I can’t wet shave my bikini area, it ends up looking twenty times worse. An electric shaver isn’t quite so close (but plenty good enough) so doesn’t give the same rash/ingrown/itchy nightmare effect.

RunningFromInsanity · 25/07/2021 22:39

I would suggest a wax if you can fit it in, if not, trim the area under the swimsuit, shave around the bikini line, get a less skimpy swimsuit.
No one really looks that’s close at another persons pubic area anyway.

Rainallnight · 25/07/2021 22:39

I’d whack some Veet on it. Way more gentle than waxing or anything. And then maybe some of that bikini line cream that deals with ingrown hairs etc?

Etinox · 25/07/2021 22:41

Shorts then leave your hair alone. It’s there for a reason. It’s one thing if you have pale or scant hair and you can get rid of it simply, but surely the fact that getting rid of it leaves you stubbly and bleeding is telling you something?!?!

PaddleBlue · 25/07/2021 22:41

In an emergency I pluck the hairs with tweezers Grin but I agree just quickly buy something with shorts!

ZednotZee · 25/07/2021 22:42

I second the veet suggestion.

The last thing you need is a razor or a last minute wax!

HelloDulling · 25/07/2021 22:44

Veet! Takes 10 mins and you are done.

Maverick66 · 25/07/2021 22:57

I would urge caution with hair removal creams......I used Nair once.
Thought I was going to finish up in A&E with burns ...very painful.
I would go with shirts option.

I swim regularly and just do minimal bikini line with a good sharp razor with the moisturiser strip, if i do it most days and go gentle, theres less chance of a rash, as long as your swimsuit isnt cut high then just shave to there and honestly no one will notice, shave with your cossie on and just remove what you can see and to be sure you have no escapees... then go and have fun

meido · 25/07/2021 23:51

Just put your swimming costume on and then you are ready x

black swim shorts & any tankini top that you like

Off topic but Lumeas have to be used regularly or the battery dies completely. It's in the instructions, they won't cover under warranty if it hasn't been switched on for 6 months + (or something like that, please double check!).

They don't remove hair anyway, you have to remove another way first. Then zap with Lumea to slow down regrowth.

In your situation, with bumps and rashes, I definitely recommend shorts!

Binkybix · 26/07/2021 05:16

Board shorts. A revelation to me!

Llamasally · 26/07/2021 06:27

Thanks for the tips - shorts do sound appealing but I bought a really nice costume to replace my maternity one and I really want to wear it. Maybe I’ll get the shorts as a back up for if the other tips fail. Will try veet I think. Really need to get on with the lumea long term, it’s just not possible at the moment to sit and do it!

Do a skin patch test with the veet. I have sensitive skin and it made me have an allergic rash on my legs. It’s fine for most people but worth checking before you go whole hog!

Also if you are really worried, grab a sarong or kaftan to cover up when you aren’t actually swimming!
