Surprised to still see so many shoes like these in the shops

In M&S today & I was surprised to see rows of these in this colour & also in black.

I used to wear these circa 2011/12 ~inspired by Kate Middleton~

I keep hearing everywhere that heels are out of fashion, and despite being a heels lover myself, even I ditched this kind of shoes some time ago, due to comfort as much as fashion reasons - I was probably one of the last women in an office of several hundred people to do so.

Why are shops still selling these kind of shoes and who wears them?! Presumably there’s still a market for them or else surely shops would stop stocking them. But I’ve not seen a woman in shoes like this in the last few years. So I’m genuinely perplexed. And I’m a middle aged mum so not a 20-something hanging out in cool places or anything.

(Just to add this is a genuine question and I’m not having a dig. I’m also a big believer in wear what you want regardless of fashion so if some people still enjoying wearing these shoes good on them)

Some places in the UK are 'dressier' than others. Some people wear heels for work. I bought some heels for my wardrobe during lockdown. In fact I almost bought these due to the good reviews re. comfort. And I never wear heels Grin

Haven’t M&S stocked these since records began?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/07/2021 20:54

They need to keep selling them so that women of average height can wear their trousers without finding an alteration tailor to take up the hems or looking like their legs have partially dissolved in the rain...

Fashio · 25/07/2021 20:55

We have a couple of women ar work who like these

Awful. Look like doll shoes

ILoveToads · 25/07/2021 21:05

I wear high heels because I like the way they feel and look. I find flat shoes uncomfortable.

I don't understand the way some flat wearers feel the need to be so worthy about it.

Wear what you want, but don't assume us high heel people are in pain and just doing it for vanity.

Fashio · 25/07/2021 21:11

Oh. It’s the nude that’s grim

Gilbot · 25/07/2021 21:21

Interesting theory that heels will be back in fashion after lockdown

Eh? Literally no one said that. Most people have agreed they're a not particularly fashionable shoe but still a popular classic for formal events or some work places.

Sales must have nosed dived due to home working and the cancellation of all formal gatherings. I suppose M and S are sending a clear message now "back to normal, get your formal heels here" because they've been a best seller in the past.

Always wear this sort of shoe for work when I have client meetings. Match everything, keep a set in my car as an emergency fancy shoe. Cheap enough that if you scuff them it doesn’t matter but they also don’t look cheap.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 25/07/2021 21:49

They didn't really go anywhere. The nude colour might have disappeared for a bit but the shape is a classic M&S since the St Micheal days.

stripedbananas · 25/07/2021 22:35

They're just kind of no brainer shoes that can be worn with anything like having a LBD, a great wardrobe staple

diddlediddle · 26/07/2021 21:39

I agree with you OP.

I literally bought this exact pair in 2012. There are so many other more imaginative and comfy options now, I don't get it really
