Shopping by colour palette

Is this possible?

The colours that suit me are muted tones. I don't suit bright colours at all, ditto bold or large patterns.

I spend (waste) so much trawling through clothing websites looking for things in the colours I want/like and never finding them. If there are filters by colour then the results are always the wrong tone - bright or pastel or whatever.

I need a website that will collate all the items for sale everywhere in the tones I want! 🤣 Pinterest comes up with useful pictures of the kind of thing I'm after but without information about where to get them from.

How can I streamline this process so I can find what I'm looking for without spending hours searching? Am I just being thick and missing something really obvious? (Very possible.)

Failing that, does anyone know any sites/shops that sell nice but not too expensive clothes in muted shades?! 🤣

You could flick through New In to see the seasons colour themes. Or try John Lewis for a cross section of brands.
I'm the opposite so I could list shops I can't always find strong colours in : Uniqlo, Seasalt/White stuff/Fatface, Woolovers, any good? Also M&S but it's exhausting looking.

Also suggest Kettlewell colours for basics e.g. khaki or dusty pink long sleeve top etc.

ToManderleyAgain · 25/07/2021 18:08

The only website that I know of to sort by colour palette is Kettlewell www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/

Otherwise you could approach it by shopping from places that tend towards a signature colour palette (eg. Noa Noa, Poetry, Brora) or buying more basics / staples during the summer months when you are most likely to find a soft colours in abundance.

Miseryisabutterfly · 25/07/2021 18:09

Have you tried searching for the specific colour you want? Typing lilac, or mauve or whatever into the search bar for example?

Roseyleaf · 25/07/2021 18:14

If can shop instore, places like Phase Eight, Hobbs and Jigsaw display their clothes in "stories" with clothing of similar colour palette and themed prints together on one rail. They never mix saturated with muted colours.

Oops forgot to say... That rule goes out of the window with sale items!

Mint Velvet good for muted tones.

Some really good advice and useful suggestions here. Thank you so much!

There are some brands that do a lot of muted or neutral tones - Poetry, Toast, Cos.

dotty81 · 25/07/2021 19:52

H&M also do a lot of muted tones for the soft summer colour palette (if that's what you are).

dotty81 · 25/07/2021 19:52

Also Reiss!

I think I'm soft autumn, but similar palette. Thank you!

Style Me Happy sells a 'mini shop' every month where you put in your colours/shape and they trawl through the shops and send you a huge array of clothes and accessories you might like, with links to buy them. Seems to be from mostly affordable high street stores with the odd splurge.

I haven't bought one myself (don't live in UK) but the women who have rave about them.

I'm also soft autumn, and honestly the best thing I've found is only buying when shops have their autumn wear in. Pretty rubbish for the other ten months of the year though.

Deathraystare · 31/07/2021 11:23

Yes Kettlewell - if you worship viscose.

Candleabra · 31/07/2021 11:30

In my limited experience, shops which I think generally do muted colours (so compatible with autumn/summer seasons) are:
Ted baker
Oasis
Reiss
H&M

Avoid Hobbs

Kerrie Ellis is brilliant for this. I can ask for things (eg evening trousers) or occasions (weekend away / school reunion). Kerrie does the hard work and provides you with a range of suitable things in perfect colour, size and style within your budget . Always very wearable choices and interesting style-appropriate accessories

Just brilliant.

I first used her service for my 40th (I know) school reunion and was really delighted with my outfits. Since that weekend, I've worn them over and over again.
