Girl’s school shirts/blouses for large chests

My eldest daughter is 12 and starting high school in August and we’re struggling to find a school blouse to fit her. She’s matured much faster than her peers and wears a 34E/36DD bra (poor kid inherited my MIL’s broad back). Asda’s 15-16year old girls shirts left a gaping hole at the buttons over her chest and they don’t have the 17-18 shirts anywhere. M&S have really weird shirts that fit her chest in the larger sizes but look ridiculous and too wide on her waist (they’re meant to be fitted but it seems they assume large chest also means large waist too) Tesco & Sainsbury’s didn’t have any larger sizes in and I don’t really know any other affordable places to try. Budget is tight for us until September.

I’ve seen white, adult-sized office-style blouses in next and H&M but none seem to have a collar to accommodate a tie, which is compulsory. They’re also quite expensive.

Where can I find a school blouse that will take a tie to fit a larger chested girl? She has had to wear boys shirts in primary school in the last year but she was picked on for it and she’s really worried it would happen again in high school if she doesn’t wear the slimmer fitted girls shirt. She’s already really anxious about the change so I want to try to make her feel comfortable in her clothes.

Thanks

Could you get the M&S ones altered?

Alpenguin · 25/07/2021 18:11

They’re sold out of the larger sizes online and locally.

Try a specialist school uniform shop if you have one in your area, they seem to have a greater stock of styles and sizes and will advise and fit her. I've found not too much more expensive than M&S or Next and better fit.

Have you looked at banner or trutex who do lots of school shirts?

Alpenguin · 26/07/2021 21:56

My concern is the prohibitive cost of trutex etc. Even M&S are more expensive than asda or Tesco.

I have family around the country looking for the sizes we need. I didn’t realise having boobs weren’t a thing in school uniform design for young women and girls.

My girl is 12 and a GG cup. I got her blouses from the local uniform shop (I had to, they wear yellow!) but they are lovely and roomy. She wears a 34. They're not too expensive though obviously more than supermarkets!

If she has to wear a tie maybe try some boys ones? Avoid the slim fit ones though. Unfortunately that won't work if she needs a blouse neckline.

Having hips isn't a thing either when school specify the type of school skirt they just wear 🙄 my girl wears trousers!

I had this problem at school 25 years ago. I was a size 16in top and an 8 waist (those were the days!!). The only way around it for a flattering and comfy fit was to take in a extra on the pleats and cut off the extra material so it didn’t bunch when tucked in. Of course my mother didn’t do this. I was always uncomfortable and hot! It was bad enough having the extra weight but but I didn’t like taking my jumper off and all the material was hot! I know it’s a fiddle but it would be worth finding someone to sew/adjust them for mental health purposes. I felt like I was a dowdy sack of saggy boobs at such a young age. I’m now about to go through the same thing with my daughter who is 11 and busting out of her bras and blouses as quick as the hulk and not even started menstuating! (Mine doubled over night when that happened at 15) I’m not going to let her feel the way I did. I can’t change the size of her boobs (yet.. if ever… I reduced mine at 19 by 10 cup sizes) but I can make sure she’s comfortable and hopefully will bring her confidence and may never feel the need to reduce.

Have you tried the regular fit M&S girls rather than slim fit?

Sorry I hadn't noticed this was an old thread Blush
