Forehead lines - help!

Colinthedog · 24/07/2021 16:16

I’ve developed really obvious forehead lines that are starting to make me feel self conscious. I’m 39. I’m not really wrinkly anywhere else, but I have a habit of raising my eyebrows (I do it all the time!) which I assume is the culprit. I’ve even thought about getting a fringe cut back in, but I’ve had one in the past and my hair isn’t really thick enough. And I like my hair style at the moment and don’t really want one!!

I’m reluctant to go for Botox, at least not yet. But does anything else actually make a difference? Has anyone had any success with any beauty products or treatments that have made lines a lot less obvious? Or do I need to accept that Botox is realistically the only way to go if I want to improve the appearance of my forehead?

Try having a dermaroller treatment or a chemical face peel

BeaBeaBuzz · 24/07/2021 16:19

I had a facial this morning and was talking to the therapist about exactly this. She said dermapen (think it’s micro needling) or peels could help and would certainly prevent worsening but Botox was the only real fix even temporarily

Hydrate more in terms of drinking more water as well as using hydrating serums
Wear frownies at night
Use retin-a

Colinthedog · 24/07/2021 16:21

Thanks both, I’ll look into these options

@Classica I’ve heard of frownies but was a bit sceptical, do they really work? I assume they help to stop it getting worse rather than improving current appearance? I also need to stop raising my eyebrows all the time, but easier said than done 😂

Pretty sure I have read quite a few posters on here talk about terrible experience with derma pen 'practitioners' leaving them with permanent scarring.

I haven't actually tried myself them but I have a friend who's evangelical about them. She swears they're reversed her forehead lines and says the paper ones are more effective than silicone.

Genegenieee · 24/07/2021 16:33

I was the same at your age and in the end had Botox, it doesn't reverse existing lines but they soften a lot and no further ones develop.

Honestly, after trying so many things, I would say just go for Botox but find a good practitioner. My forehead is much less lined than my friends who are the same age. I don't spend a lot on other facial treatments or products, but do use retinol which helps.

schmalex · 24/07/2021 17:06

I'm 41 and have just started having Botox for mine. The doctor said it's good to start before they set in too deep as otherwise it's difficult to reverse them.

Colinthedog · 24/07/2021 17:43

Thanks everyone, it sounds like things like retinol and frownies could help, but as I suspected Botox is probably going to be the answer!

Sorry probably not what you want to hear but Botox all the way. This is my before and after.

But I presume in the before pictures you're raising your eyebrows and furrowing your brow? Faces are supposed to do that. Even little kids' faces.

troppibambini6 · 24/07/2021 17:53

Yes I was raising my eyebrows but not everyone has that many wrinkles when they do, they were also there after I stopped raising by brows. They have massively softened. Obviously Botox is not for everyone but I'm pleased with the results.

troppibambini6 · 24/07/2021 17:53

And I'm also raising them in the after pictures.

APurpleSquirrel · 24/07/2021 17:54

I have this too, but definitely won't have Botox etc. I've been using Rosehip Oil at night under my face cream, & a mixed blend facial oil under my daytime cream for about 6 months & have noticed a difference. The lines are definitely softer & less defined/noticeable. I'm not expecting them to disappear completely but the oils have helped.

Miseryisabutterfly · 24/07/2021 18:01

So basically Botox equals no expressions whatsoever. I would very much like to eradicate the pesky line between my eyebrows but I don’t want to stop the rest of my face from moving.

Op I’m sure you’re your harshest critic.

Claudia84 · 24/07/2021 18:06

Botox doesn’t mean no expression at all - you can just get it to mean that you don’t furrow as much. I can still frown and raise my eyebrows but before I used to constantly frown if it was even a little bit light outside, and even with sunglasses. It meant that I always had a deep furrow between my brows. Since having it the furrow has all but gone but I am still very capable of a hard stare! It’s just not every minute of the day anymore.

Colinthedog · 24/07/2021 18:08

@Miseryisabutterfly Ha, maybe! Although someone else once mentioned them (☹️) so they are definitely there. I’d just like to make them not quite so obvious, although I worry about the precedent that having Botox sets, the need to keep getting it done and the expense etc

OP posts:
Miseryisabutterfly · 24/07/2021 18:09

Lol @Claudia84 a hard stare is a must.

Colinthedog · 24/07/2021 18:10

@troppibambini6 Wow, what a difference! How often do you need to have it done to maintain something close to that result?

OP posts:
FogHornInTheAttic · 24/07/2021 18:11

Botox is the only thing that will work.Youll wonder why you've waited this long afterwards.

Miseryisabutterfly · 24/07/2021 18:11

That’s what I would worry about too @Colinthedog, even though it does sound like the solution… I’d say try a few different things first before you go the Botox route!

Colinthedog · 24/07/2021 18:11

@Claudia84 I know what you mean, my forehead seems to be in perpetual motion! And I’m now really conscious of it!

OP posts:
Miseryisabutterfly · 24/07/2021 18:13

@troppibambini6 looks great but I don’t see that the before pictures are particularly helpful given the raised eyebrows and furrowed brows. Faces are meant to do that!

troppibambini6 · 24/07/2021 18:27

Ok yes I can see that it's not easy to what my wrinkles looked like with my face still. If you look at the frowning before picture you can kind of see my forehead lines.
I do have facial expressions still. It's obviously a cropped picture so not easy to see that and I find for the first couple of weeks it's can feel a bit frozen but definitely softens after a couple of weeks which is when I prefer it.
I had that done at the end of April and it's just staring to wear off now but I probably have another month until I will want it done again so roughly every 4 months.
