Autumn/winter footwear for tall and big-footed!

I have this dilemma every year and vow to start looking early for my perfect winter footwear, but I don't really know what I'm looking for, so I've turned here for inspiration! Ok, the basics:

  • 43yo
  • 6ft tall, and size 16
  • Size 9 feet

Generally work from home and live in the countryside, but sometimes need something that can look smart. Generally I just want to be able to pull something on with jeans or a winter skirt.

I love the idea of those chunky flat boots that were everywhere last winter, but they make my feet look enormous. I don't really want anything heeled as I'm already so tall. Can't do anything pointed because of huge feet.

Anyone else out there in the same boat with good advice on where to look???

I'm a little shorter than you but also a size 9 (by which I mean a 43, don't start me on the shops whp call a 42 "9"..) and share your pain.

I wear a lot of trainers all year round, but otherwise simple Chelsea boots or loafers for work (in office-based times). Try Air & Grace, not cheap but I've been impressed by the quality and may treat myself to a pair of their boots this winter.

I'm not too fussed about making my feet look even bigger, so do have a pair of "hiking" boots (from Next a couple of seasons ago) and am very tempted by something like the Dealer boot from Solovair (UK made, quality like DMs used to be).

Really like that site, thanks! Don't mind splashing out a bit on something I will wear a lot, but a lot of the nicer brands only go up to a 41 (even if they say they do a 42 or 43 they never have them in stock!). I agree - a size 9 is a 43!!!!!

I live in Jhods and yard boots or walking / hiking boots cos I'm out and about with horses and dogs on and off all day.

Also tall just shy of 6ft and size 14-16.

Shires jhods I find are the comfiest, most solidly decent and reasonably priced. Get them on Amazon a lot cheaper than most other retailers and they are by far the most comfortable and best quality.

Brands and types of wellies I'm not precious about to be honest if you're not going to need a more robust and hardwearing pair you can't go wrong with a nice cheap and cheeful pair of Dunlop wellies for under a tenner.

Brasher hiking boots are so goddamn comfy and worth the extra cost but not sure you'll get them in size 9 ladies. Alternatively get a standard size 9 there's not much difference really.

Failing that if you're not out in mud and they won't get wet through and take a real hammering, cross country running trainers are just as good for long cold winter walks.

Ecco do great ankle boots in loads of styles, although it's a bit early for their A/W ones. There's this for example:
gb.ecco.com/en-GB/Women/Shoes/Boots/product/5638474942/ECCO-SARTORELLE-25

They'll have a lot more choice soon. They're fairly expensive but very good quality and last well.

Magnus?

This is not strictly what you were after, @MayorGundersonsDogRufus but I am slightly overexcited to discover a new brand selling nice, reasonably-priced shoes for large feet: https://ottoandivy.com

Not bought anything (yet) but the range looks good.

Conker handmade pull on boots. Expensive but last years- resoleable too and you can get the width/size you need. I have had mine for six years and they are still going strong.
