Hand dyeing lingerie

My favourite pair of silk knickers has lost its lustre after lots of washing and I want to try reviving it by dyeing it with Dylon.

Has anyone tried hand dyeing their own clothes? I will be using hand dye rather than machine dye since I'll only need a small amount.
What tips can you offer please?

If they’ve got lace on them or polyester thread that may not due as well.

Silk is absorbent and will take colour well, but try and keep them as flat as possible. It can crease whilst wet which can affect the take up of the dye.

I have done lots of dyeing, some successful, some not, the usual fail is that the fabric dyes well but the stitching or any embellishments doesnt, dyeing underwear has never worked for me but to be fair mine are not silk 😁

You'll end up with colour knickers with grubby lace and white stitching.

The Lingerie Addict blog has a guide:

Thanks for the replies. Seems very mixed.

@MrsEmmaKnightley was that your experience?

I'll give it a try anyway. The dye is only £3 and if it doesn't work, then it doesn't work.

@MrsEmmaKnightley yes that was exactly my experience, the dye just came out a faded shade with grotty looking lace worse than before i dyed tbh but as i said not silk. Good luck op
