Leather trainers with soles that don't fall apart

Djangor3725 · 20/07/2021 14:01

I've had the PU soles disintegrate on two pairs of leather trainers this year. Never had this before but gather it is a well known problem with this type of sole and they are difficult and expensive to resole. I like leather trainers but it is frustrating if the uppers are fine but they can't be resoled. Looking now for leather trainers with soles that will last and ideally a bit of arch support although I can add insoles. I also have small feet - need size 35. Can anyone help?

When you say trainers do you mean trainer trainers or dap/pump/plimsoll trainers? If the former my Reebok classics have worn out the upper, after 2 years almost daily wear, the sole is still going strong

Fitflop Rally if you're after more day wear sneaker types.

BestIsWest · 20/07/2021 15:13

I second the Fitflop Rally.

Nike Air Force one are indestructible

Many thanks - I should have said that I am looking more for day wear sneaker types but I like them for dog walking in the summer so have been looking at both types as my shoe size limits the range drastically so I don't seem to have that much choice. Have looked at Fitflop rally & it seems to start at size 36 so no good, sadly. That type of thing is what I want.

Camper shoes are really good quality and I’ve got some really nice leather ones that I wear all the time. They’re pricey, but they have regular sales and I’ve found them worth the price.

Thanks, DontAsk, Campers look nice & my shoe size limits me so much I happily pay more for something that looks good (although a kind MN'er once recommended some Next boys shoes which fitted well, looked good & were amazing value). Sadly only the Kids styles in Campers have a size 35 but there are some possible styles still. A new brand for me.

Superga look like they've got a really good range in your size? M&S have size 3 so may be too big but some nice ones if that's an option.

My absolute favourite leather trainers are my Sezane Jack ones and they're available in your size.

Adidas Sleek. I have three pairs in different colours and even the well worn dog walking pair is still in good nick. They come up small and mine are all a half size bigger than I usually wear.

Djangor3725 · 20/07/2021 20:10

The Sezanne ones look nice but have you ever had to do returns, Mufflette, & if so how do they work & are they expensive?

I've not had to return anything luckily! But as far as I know returns are free and I think via collect+ so you just need to be able to print off a label.

My Stan Smiths have lasted really well, but won’t have the arch support that you’re after. DD has had two pairs of Nike Air Force Ones, which have been great.

stickygotstuck · 20/07/2021 20:42

I second Campers, OP. Quality and comfort.

Just buy the children's version. I've been wearing children's shoes for years, and I'm a 37 Wink

Djangor3725 · 21/07/2021 10:27

Thank you to all for the various suggestions. I am quite happy wearing children's shoes, Sticky. Its just hard sometimes to find ones that are not covered in glitter or cartoon brands and velcro straps are being used too often for my liking.
